  1. Awesome reactions Alyssa, this years Academy Awards were some of the best in recent years. Even if I wish Barbie the best movie of last year shouod have won more at least it didn't leave empty handed and deservedly got Best Song for What Was I Made For. Ryan Gosling performing I'm Just Ken was so epic. I'm also happy for Oppenheimer winning Best Picture and Nolan winning Best Director as a Nolan movie hasn't ever gotten this much Oscar love before!

  2. The only thing pointing to Lily winning was winning the SAG award. It definitely was not a huge upset. Emma was in the more loved movie and had more passion behind her movie and/or her performance from the entire academy, not just the actors/actresses. Your commentary is usually on point has been confusing with this category.

  3. It is weird, despite wanting Oppenheimer to win best picture and Nolan for best director, the actual moment was a little anticlimactic, as it was such a forgone conclusion. I was surprised that Poor Things took all the design categories. I thought Barbie might snag production design, and maybe Maestro for makeup. After the design Oscars, I started doubting my pick of Lily Gladstone, and I was right to do so. I was a bit surprised that Zone of Interest did actually win best sound, although, now, looking back on your sound design short, I think you were right that Oppenheimer did have the more varied sound. My favorite win was, by far, Godzilla Minus One taking the best visual effects Oscar. It literally had about the same budget as the low key drama (and masterpiece) Past Lives, and it beat out a film that possibly had 20-30x the budget. I also loved the story of Yamazaki meeting god (Steven Spielberg), and finding out that Spielberg had seen Minus One three times, and Yamazaki gave him a Godzilla figure.

As far as speeches go, the ones that struck me the most were Cord Jefferson for best adapted screenplay for American Fiction, and Mstyslav Chernov for 20 Days in Mariupol. Jefferson for begging the studios to take more chances on new filmmakers, and spread that 200 million around. As for Chernov, that speaks for itself.

And, come on, after the big “I’m Just Ken” musical number, “What was I made for” winning was a huge letdown.
