This unit is now fixed and works well.
With rubber band as a belt, servo got its underwear in a twist.
Interestingly, it only uses about 60µW of laser power to read absolutely any CD-R. The laser is KSS-240A and the DAC chip is CXD2561M, which was only ever used in these carousel players.
