Here’s weekly dose of your catastrophic engine forensics! Every week you can find a new teardown of some abused, misused and/or poorly designed engine. I’ve got over 150 videos of failed engine teardowns on this…

lets talk about the old tool box big stones shall we , before pyramids mount Olympus electric under Zeus , shall we . . can have a poke , not different physics (lower Birkeland charge under Saturn old Sun) . . different tasks , as in we have't the whole toolbox yet
It BMW engine has ZERO value unless to a flipper dolphin (pub where I fought bouncers including middleweight champ) , cup & ball trick caper current zero carbon intentional sabotage of combustion re greening carbon (I'll get to point shortly), carbon re greens my point
Great teardown, and great shot with the oil pan gasket hahahaha
GRONK SPIKE.
This was almost certainly a money shift.
Still good crosshatching in those jugs.
Wonder if you twisted top of head bolts on a few of em…
Looking for a cylinder head for a 04 isuzu axiom 3.5 driver side. Can't find it anywhere.
Please hook me up if you have one .
Thank you for your time
May not need blue, but I'm sure he appreciates the work… lol
Oh please a nice jb weld job is just fine BUT a bad one is just bad. I’m about to use a c clamp and jb weld to fix the cracked block in my kohler courage I just bought. Time for a story. A kohler courage is a mower engine that’s a bucket design and the sump is under the flywheel and a common issue is the sump bolts loosen over time and the sump starts shaking and the dowel pin in the sump cracks the block. And I think the previous owner noticed the loose bolts and replaces the gasket but didn’t notice the crack in the block
The S55 was tuned and sent to the moon!
Hmm, neat design that you can replace the chain guides from the top.
Holy S*"' Talk about engineering 😮 .
Il never put that back together 😅
Excellent video!
I know of a shop that would do just that,,, Paint fixes it.
Given that rev limiters have been a "thing" for a couple of decades, it takes an extra dose of stupid to over-rev a modern engine. (Or an idiot with a manual transmission.)
I say definitly a timing chain issue !
Bmw , audi and Mercedes after 2013 are Bad becuse high pression of fuel ,carbon residue , tensors, chains and materials….
Was the car manual or auto?
Nice to see you win one. Congrats!
Lol, I love it. I want to get it out without braking it, he says. That's the last thing I want to do, literally.
As an owner of a BMW with an S55 engine, I'm glad to finally see a teardown of an S55. These engines are really impressive. From the factory, they were offered with horsepower from 405 to 493, all from the same long block, with the difference being the tune. With stock internals, they are good for well over 750 HP. Considering you are a BMW guy, you should know that one of the problems with the S55 engine is a spun timing gear, which manifests itself with valve to piston contact. Unfortunately, it's too late to find out if the valve to piston contact was caused by movement of the timing gear or because of a missed shift. (You would have had to check the timing before you took it apart.) This engine is in pretty nice condition and it should easily be rebuildable.
You know that exhaust valve/ piston interface MAY be normal. On built bike engines having valves “clean” but not touch the pistons is quite normal. It’s just a limitation of achieving high compression. Considering this is an “M” motor they may be pushing it as well.
Why sell it by parts if you could actually rebuild it and sell it as a working engine?
Crayola rebuild
@29:10 Looking at all these pistons with the new valve impressions the areas over the top rings were scrubbed shiny. Made me go HMMMM!!!
So it got a vice grip garage Craigslist rebuild? Tsssst Tsssst they definitely put a new timing set in NOPE no they didn’t….
I'm sure this has been suggested a zillion times, but I'd love to get your opinion on "best engines". I suppose those are ones you never see very often, though. Avoiding things like the W12s and other complex wonders, you could do a video on most-common pickup and SUVs – best engines and those simplest to work on. Some of your teardowns scare me off ever buying a vehicle with a particular engine used, for sure
Sheesh, the machining is amazing on that engine but so over engineered. Too bad it was abused. I'm sure the power and smoothness was incredible.
I love how it went from crack the cam caps, to cam the crack caps, to lets cram these off 😂 the evolution of that running gag and all of your running gags has been fantastic
So Eric you think a Italian tune up is what caused this on a performance BMW motor?
The injector tool is designed so that you DONT wiggle the injector in the injector bore. The ease of use is just a plus 😂
If anyone can make an engine stupid complicated it’s a German
G'day Eric. Really enjoying your engine autopsies. Curious to whether you are likely to have a 2.2l Turbo diesel out of a 2014 Chevy Captiva come through the shop for teardown? I'm going to keep watching either way, just curious,Thanks.
I’m willing to bet that someone had either money shifted it, or it was tuned and spun the crank hub
A common rebuild problem, skim the top of the block then skim the head (if not flat) throw it back together with a thicker gasket. Then the gasket crushes during running and the one thing they should have done but didn't was to turn the tops of the pistons back to clearance.
