  1. 100% agree with you. This and the T480 are some of the best, durable, and repairable laptop ever made!

Really my only gripes are that it's a bit difficult to find a version with an Nvidia GPU, and that Linux can't quite take full advantage of the Nvidia GPU even if you get one (blame that on Nvidia's poor support, not Linux).

Apart from that, even with the built-in Intel graphics, this thing is perfectly capable for the vast majority of everyday tasks.

  2. I have one, not even fully upgraded, 8gb of ram and an i3 with a sata ssd. It runs windows 11 pro perfectly, I gave it to my mother for internet use and Netflix. Not a single problem.

  3. I've been using a T430 for a few years already as my daily driver during university (since I study in another city and can't bring my home PC with me). So far I added a 128 GB SSD that made the laptop work much faster, and an 8 GB RAM module. Really solid laptop, it's also decent for some light gaming, as I played some older titles (incl. GTA SA, Mafia 1, NFS Underground (1&2), Most Wanted 2005) and a bit newer ones (Dirt 2, worked at 20-30 fps on low-medium settings but the game was stable 😅 good enough for me). Not bad for an integrated graphics card (it has the i5 3320m with Intel HD 4000).

I'm planning to find a backlit keyboard, because the original is already wearing out and doesn't have this feature, another 8 GB module and maybe.. maybe.. another screen as a replacement for that TN pile of garbage.

  4. I dropped my T430 from the attic 3,5 meters face down on the hard floor and it's still working!! 💪
It has a little indent and a tiny piece of plastic chipped off but it's 100% functional.

It has the i7-3520M, the Nvidia chip and 12Gb ram. It's awesome. 🙂

  5. I bought my T430 back when it first came out I came from a t60 ThinkPad and it's the best buying decision I've ever made the T430 is still one of the best computers in the ThinkPad lineup I've ever used I can literally do anything with it and for a laptop I would still recommend it today especially for people who are on a budget

  6. i have a T430, Cool Laptop, i have 8Gb Ram but i only put in a 128ssd in it. but its all i need. i just browse internet and watch Youtube. It's never let me down.

  7. And it even has a DVD Player in it! I love the rugged feel of it. (To say nothing of the surprisingly sharp images, when watching DVDs or YOUTUBE.) Oh! Did I mention that it starts up unusually fast?

  8. Had a heavily upgraded T430 for years, as a mobile secondary—Initially for Volvo VIDA, and other OBD2-based utilities, like diagnostics, module programming, tuning, etc. Upgraded to a Core i7-3632QM, maxed out the RAM to 16GB, dual SATA SSDs, 768p > 900p TN display upgrade (still a poop sandwich, but not as soggy), AC WIFI, 1vyRain BIOS + Battery/WIFI EC whitelist removals, and even Hackintoshed it with macOS 10.14 Mojave.

Eventually parted with it in favor of a much beefier P50 about 2 months ago when I started using it for heavier workloads on the go (also currently Hackintoshed with Monterey). And my T430 sold for more than what I got the P50 for, which already came with double the RAM (32GB), NVMe SSDs, and a—fairly useless, but leagues ahead of an HD 4000—Quadro M1000M.

With all that said, though, the T430 is undoubtedly one of the best notebook PCs ever made, and despite purchasing and repairing DOZENS of these over the years, I do kinda miss my particular T430.

  9. Brutal laptop. this is a legend hardware for updating. My basic T430 i5 3350 4GB RAM, 500GB Disk I have converted in a T430 with i7 3630QM, 16GB RAM, FOUR!, Yeah, FOUR DISK, a 2TB EVO SATA3 + 2TB Kingspec mSATA + CD/ROM Adapter HDD with RAID mSATA adapter with 2 x 256GB mSATA. In addition, FULL HD Display con controller + Backlight Keyboard + External GPU Adapter to 1080 nVidia gpu + 9 cell batery with other 9 cell battery + base multimonitor.
