  1. Very nice Colt. Thank you for sharing a little about the rifles in your collection and CMP pricing glory days past. My Round 4 RGN is coming up soon, and I'm struggling to decide on which grade to request. I wonder if later round pistols are being graded higher than earlier rounds. CMP did say they pulled best condition pistols first from Army inventory because they did not know how long the CMP 1911 program would last.

  2. I agree, with you on the grading process. My service grade had a rack number on the grip which looks like they miss graded it. And it also has replacement parts, thumb safety, grip safety, and slide lock are darker. The lower frame scratched the barrel slide on the right side the first time I took it to the range.
My lady was eligible through her service organization. She is widowed (her husband was significantly older). He was a waist gunner on a B-17 that was shot down on his first sortie. He spent two years as a P.O.W. LSS. She received a service grade Colt frame/Remington Rand slide. It was in EXCELLENT condition with no pitting, or rust, and minimal wear except holstering wear. Original grips or period correct ones. All the roll marks etc were exceptionally visible. I was quit pleased with what she received. AND she enjoys shooting it. It wouldn't be the one her husband used, but it IS from his time of service.

  3. I'm waiting for the call in Round 4 (RGN 47272). In Round 3 I received a service grade 1943 Remington Rand with a G.I. slide (Colt National Match Hard slide) a 1985 barrel and a few mix master parts. All of the roll marks and inspection initials are there and legible. The Army Ordnance crossed canons has a "MR" over strike from the Mount Rainier Arsenal, but the canons are partially visible. All in all I am very pleased with the one I have. It shoots very well and I haven't had any failures. I'm a USAF MSgt ret ('73-'95) and served as Security Policeman, armorer, ABGD. Crossed trained from SPs into Operations Management where I was assigned to fighter squadrons and had many opportunities for travel. I also served as First Sergeant. I commend the CMP for their work and making these great pieces of military history available. Nicely done.

  4. That's a pretty nice 1911, very nice that it has no pitting. I paid $650 for my 1st service grade Garand in 2012, $1,000 for my Service Special Garand about 3 years ago, and $900 for my 03A3 about 3 years ago…those prices make me cry lol…wish I had gotten into collecting much earlier. Still kicking myself in the butt for not getting a M1 Carbine years ago…Thank you very much for sharing sir.

  5. CMP's grading is definitely all over the place. I believe you hit the lottery with yours! I would be over the moon with a matching colt slice and frame! And with the amount of wear it has just makes it perfect! I cannot wait to put in for round 5!

  6. grading must be on internal function and fit ( my rack grade from r3 looks better and i would expect service to be not worn like yours / my neighbor's r3 service looks brand new

  7. Wow it seems like just yesterday I sent my packet in, i found out about a week before the deadline. Very cool that it is all Colt i hope I can be so lucky. Have you run a FOIA request on either of your pistols yet?
Regarding the grading now, it seems like my rack grade from round 2 was in better cosmetic condition but it had all different kinds of parts on it. RR frame, Colt slide, and 1980s replacement barrel
