Why do I get the feeling the only reason sanctuary districts aren't already a thing in 2024 as Star Trek predicted is because we avoided a second Trump term as president (… So far…)
Quick question for anyone from Patreon. During the pandemic, I had a great experience with a guy who went through all the Star Wars content. But he has since moved on to other things besides science-fiction. I’m having to care for my mom who can’t be left alone so I thought I’d see if I could find someone working through Star Trek content. I’ve seen a couple of the deep space nine episodes here and think this might be a good place to call home for a while. My question is, how does he do the content playback? I have access to the original content, but some people overlay their profile into the video while others have you queue up on another device so that they’re synchronized. And in Patreon you do get to watch the entire episode Reaction is that correct? Thanks in advance for anybody who can answer these questions for me.

Ollie, you're absolutely wrong about the Internet. This episode was made in 1995. By then, i was researching papers on the Internet, chatting with friends, and going into AOL chat rooms to meet girls and go on dates. In fact, i had been doing all those things since 1994. So, yes, "the net" was alive and available to anyone with a computer and a modem.
When that hat guy said, "nice tackle, Bell" I thought he said Taco Bell.
The cranky sanctuary guard is Mr. Futterman from "Gremlins"
25:03sec…yeap i watched it when it aired..showing my age😂🇬🇧👍
Its not good these 2 great epis r in 2024. Think about the epi and society and politicians and the future…….
what a movie called the meg
The Internet was made public in the early '90s, helped greatly by the invention of the World Wide Web in 1989–1990. By the time these episodes came out (start of 1995), the Web was already well established, even if not nearly as advanced or widely used as now. The Internet itself had existed in various forms for quite a lot longer. Although wide-area networks had been developed since the '60s, I think one could say the Internet attained its identity as such in 1974, when the first specification of the TCP/IP protocol stack that unifies it was published, which actually contained the first known instance of the name "Internet" (before then, there were many different networks with different protocols, although even for well over a decade afterwards, there was no widespread agreement about what to use to connect networks).
"Pacification" is another instance where Star Trek predicted the futire. In Brasil before the olymlics they inacted the "pacification" of the favelas. BOPE would show up, tell the gangs they have 2 weeks to leave. Anyone that didnt keave was just killed on sight.

This channel & Jen Murray rule for star trek episodes 💯
No, Sisko was not always Bell. When the trio first went back in time, nothing changed in the present. It wasn't until their actions in the past got Bell killed that time changed, and the Federation no longer existed. Up until that moment, things were proceeding normally. To get things back on track, Sisko had to assume Bell's identity and carrying out actions as he would have to restore the Trek timeline we know.
Once again, Star Trek predicts society's BS LOL
Wow, they always went back to a dystopian time that was in my future, now it's my present.
Star Trek has 2024's number.
27:02 very. Very sexy.
26:00 the internet was in its infancy, but many private households still had access to it. I’m pretty sure online gaming on PCs was already a thing even.
23:10 another interesting commentary regarding Jadzia’s arc is how she was treated. As a white skinned person, she was shown kindness and respect. However, Sisko and Bashir are brown skinned. They ended up in a sanctuary district. So the crew who made the episodes wanted to showcase the treatment of white people versus brown people in our society.
Given the alarming number of illegal immigrants and homeless who've been allowed to take over our cities' streets, this vision of future events is disturbingly accurate.
Skid row in LA is like a sanitary district.
Werd, and now we do have Sanitary districts here in the United States for illegals from other countries. Krazy
It's happening again
I've heard politicians suggest similar things to sanctuary districts and they are trying to make it illegal to sleep on sidewalks.
I think ep 1 was vastly stronger than 2 in story structure. Kira and O'Brien is a bit of fun but it seems out of place.
Of course regarding the read in a broader sense, this all seems to rather directly advocate federal solutions to problems — The Sisko even demands a federal law be reinstated.
Well, there are many that think the actions by the Feds tend to create and exacerbate problems like this. The federal government can't micromanage cities and states.
this is going on today where government somehow thinks it can afford to pay for people lives when it simply cant then it becomes twisted and evil… homelessness is a problem because of hands on governement the less a government helps the better off peolple r the more you force things the more u want the government to hwlp the more dependent the more u need areas where these people gather to get their handout. we shoukd never want the government to help people ever people should do for themselves otherwise taxes for those who work become so high to pay for those who dont that u get more and more and more government dependency. if u want the government to help people u will only create more homelesness more deplorable conditions the beat help a government can give anyone is to tell someone to get a job. you see this in every single city today controled by a certain party that claims to be helping people but is only making those very peoples lives worse
subspace bubble = temporal wake, in star trek first contact.
As someone in Tasmania, I can vouch it would be a great place to retire with a fist-full of credits and a quiet, country life. 😀
note that episode 11 came out january 2nd 1995 so when they were writing and filming it, windows 95 hadnt even come out, there were only 10 thousand websites worldwide and 11 million people on the internet. I hope this wasnt some weird predictive programming and all the illegal migrants in places like new york start rioting in september. these episodes were considered too far fetched back in the 90s, now its realistic.
"Get his food card" funny how right they got this. I watched this show when it was released and forgot which year these episodes werr set in. Also the police negotiator was the actress that played Mercy from the Warriors 1979 a great movie
