Electronic waste is one of the fastest growing types of rubbish on the planet. India, which is becoming ultra digital, is trying an old trick in new ways to deal with its growing and dangerous dump yards.

What do you do when your smartphone breaks – replace or repair? And why?
You should have visited Gaffar Market and not Nehru Market.
I'm using 5 years old mobile i think I don't need new mobile for watching YouTube..
Recycling dovetails neatly into the Law of Karma.

For most phones the battery is the biggest reason everyone buy a new phone.

DW doing better journalism in India than Indian channels, lost opportunity for Indian channels. Thanks for the great coverage.
This is new way of displaying slums in india having good thumbnail Title. These agenda driven media's intention is always to diminish Image of growing India.
Can an Indian repair shop fix my Surface Pro that was bricked by trying to swap out the swollen battery? If so, India here I come! If not, I am never buying another Microsoft hardware product. Too much risk of losing all my data again.

In Tokyo Olympics 2020, Japan made all of the event medals by recycling e-waste. Just an amazing way of how waste can be literally converted to Gold!!!
Super report
the whole way smartphone and anything in general is made should be completely redone. why wouldnt it be possible to make a phone where you only need to replace the glass instead of the whole screen assembly? because it's cheaper to make and customers will need to buy new ones more often. companies should be responsible for the complete lifecycle of their devices, only then can current ways change.
Go india!!
I thought this is indian channel but found its a Germany channel. So cool.
Underrated documentation, great work
I love how Indian people (still) have the skills available so widely distributed in their country to repair ANYTHING.
When I was in India I saw a person getting their umbrella repaired on the street after it broke after a heavy rain in August. I would have thrown my umbrella away. It really made me think of how wasteful I lived. Unfortunately, in my home country I wouldn't even know where to go with a broken umbrella. People suggest me always to "just throw it away".
People talk about environment, India is light years ahead of any other developed country.
I got samsung phone screen replaced for mere 20 GBP in India!😁
I have been using my Nova 3 for last 5.5 years and barely my phone had faced any defect. Had a battery replacement just recently 🔋
When you repair… you grow and support common man
But when you buy new you support MNC
That's the basic difference
