Sony has just released their new ZV-E1 camera. It uses the same full frame sensor from the Sony FX3, FX6, and AS7III but comes in a compact size. David is here to unbox it and give his initial thoughts, so…

  1. "the great thing is that they PACKED everything in here."
"But the problem is the way they PACKED everything in here."
The good part: you can get all the quality of a bigger camera.
The bad part: you can only get it for 30 seconds.

  2. It's honestly kinda surprising that we don't have some modern cameras with some sort of semi-exposed(heavily vented housing or something) heat sink on the end of a heat pipe or something. Heat rejection seems like the primary Achilles heel of most 'higher performance' cameras forever now, always seems to be a duty cycle limitation, and seemingly no options to do anything about it.
Maybe Frore's AirJet will be the solution? I guess time will tell.

  3. I want to jump in from the point of view of a camera retail worker, the ZV-E1 doesn't make enough sense as a product for a customer to be wildly successful imo. The great low resolution sensor is mismatched with it's specialized features like auto reframing, because even though it does 4k it does 4k b a r e l y, so it crops in and loses resolution.
As other people have pointed out the overheating kills its potential for high output vlogging and the huge file qualities and sizes make little to no sense for casual content creators.
Also in order to get the quality out of the full frame sensor customers need to spend at least another 400-500 on a single decent lens, not even a strong zoom. So if it's not appealing to influencer creators it should appeal to high end vloggers or semi pros, well they already own an a7s iii, or maybe even an fx3.
If I really wanted to put a kit together for a vlogger I'd use a smaller sensor camera so they could use smaller sensor lenses and save the extra money and weight for a decent mic and ND filters

  4. Damn I’ve been out of the camera game for years ever since the a7iii came out. Haven’t been keeping up with the trends as my iPhone seems to have taken the casual snap shot role needs

  5. As a camcorder user I would love to see sony put this sort of sensor and features into a camera with the form factor and optical image stabilisation of the AX53. That would be my dream camera.

  6. Sony has started to do what CaNikon used to do. Incredibly slow incremental upgrades, and then charging their victims extortionate amounts of wonga for the privilege.

Luckily Canon and Nikon have super upped their game . Booyaaaah!

Also Sony has the worst aftercare service, warranty is useless. Make sure you get the extended cover. You have been warned.

The only thing they seem to be doing right, is taking care of their army of social media influencers 😅 its definitely working for them.

  7. Those strap things what are they called? I use the strap the came with my camera and it's just so bad. So i would like to buy a new strap but one that can be used with those "clip-on" strap things, for ease of mounting it to my setup after use
