Should the Lakers Make Cam Reddish a Starter Again?

Should the Lakers Make Cam Reddish a Starter Again? Plus, Back Surgery for Jalen-Hood Schifino.

“Locked On Lakers”

The Lakers still have designs on moving up in the Western Conference, and the narrowest of windows in which to get it done. There are opportunities. The Suns, for example, have an insanely brutal schedule over their last 10 games, and the Lakers do own the tiebreaker against Phoenix. Sacramento…

  1. We definitely need scoring from bench but like you said at 29:25…. I'm just not sure that it works
I feel like he needs time to play himself into the game and when he just comes off the bench he's never aggressive enough

Which is kind of odd because you think he would be more aggressive since he has the green light to be the offensive guy from the bench

  2. I don’t think Reddish should come in for Rui. He should push Reaves back to the 6th man (temporarily). Reaves played well in that role and Cam would allow for better balance in the lineup:

    DLo
    Reddish
    James
    Rui
    Davis

Then once (if) Vando returns, you slot him in for Rui and swap Reaves back into the starting unit for Reddish as well:

    DLo
    Reaves
    James
    Vando
    Davis

  3. Lakers notoriously bring in talented pieces and dumb them down to nothing.

    Example
    Lou Williams
    Jordan Clarkson
    Julius Randle
    Malik Monk
    Dennis Schroeder
    Brandon Ingram
    Ivica Zubac
    Josh Hart
    Gary Payton II

This is just off the cuff there’s probably more

  4. Jaime Jaquez isn't 4 years older than JHS. He's two years older. Also, youth is overrated except in a few cases with high upside players who are usually higher lottery picks or guys like Whitmore. In all likelihood JHS ceiling is as an off the bench borderline starter like a Max Christie. That's pretty bad value for the pick position, especially if he can't provide that right away.

  5. I firmly disagree about Rui to the bench, you need his size to bang bodies, Christie or Reddish is fine, Reeves to the bench. Reeves is paid already and DLO is going for his payday so the team as a whole should know they are redundant and put Reeves on the bench this year with little penalty to his career. Brian please no need to show your Reddish bias, start Christie, just break up that backcourt duo, thats the issue, its killing us.

  6. Hey they used my comment! 😃 thanks guys! so my push back for the discussion of it being Reaves going to the bench rather then Rui is what Brian was beginning to bring up .There is evidence Reaves worked off the bench while Rui just did not work off the bench . Shouldn’t mess with Rui in the starting line up IMO. On offense Reaves is a better scorer and playmaker than Rui but Rui is a Matchup nightmare due to the size .If anything another pro to keeping Rui in the lineup is we become a bit more switch friendly defensively . Imagine KD switching from AD LB CAM and then end up on RUI instead of Reaves . If anything Rui has the size physicality to stick with a guy like KD or Giannis , contrast to what we know they do to Reaves defensively. . We would also split up the huge liability defensively of Dlo/ Reaves and Dlo has easily become our 3rd best player regardless of inconsistency have to leave him in there

  7. Something that just came to mind. Do you guys think that some of those teams you named will be trying to sit their players? Those are also teams that are at the top and looking to be healthy for the playoffs.

  8. I know and win is a win and a loss is a loss, but it sure feels like in this recent stretch those losses hurt us more than those wins helped us
Cuz we lost our opportunity to control our own destiny

  9. It’s just absolutely disgusting for this team to be in this position again. So hard for me to understand why we suck so bad. A combination of everything injuries inconsistencies with players and bad coaching what a disaster!

  10. I criticized the pick. We needed guys that could contribute. We could’ve used a project pick in the 2nd round. I still don’t really understand the logic. Jaime Jacquez and GG Jackson could’ve been on this team and this season and the future of this team would be so different. The fact that we can’t figure out where the league is going(wings win championships) while also having 2 guys who aren’t even their prime yet on D’Lo/AR that play guard is infuriating.

  11. Clearly Rob screwed up last draft. J.J. would've been a great fit with him being from ULLA, complete baller, home grown and his ethnicity was important for Southern California fans. Passed up Cam Whitmore…oh my.

  12. The Lakers front office have a Andy Brian and Trevor Lame type mindset. Kyrie balling out on Dallas when he wanted to play with LBJ…but it's OK we have their guy Reaves locked and loaded. We all can't wait for Vando to get back to cover up Reaves simple tasks like sayyyyyyy guarding other guards. The Hawks player that yammed in Reaves face saw him as food…Lakers can't win until they start being honest.

  13. Reddish can't score. He screws up offensive fast breaks by missing layoffs and turning the ball over. His offensive liability is greater than his defensive contribution. If the team is healthy, cam should not be in rotation.

  14. No way. Keep the starting lineup. Theyre like 11-5 with this lineup im a roll my dice on 5v5 offense than 4v5 offense. Cam,Prince & Vando are liabilities on offense, it also dont compensate for their defense of their lack of offensive skill. Rui is the best option starting. You dont ruin that offensive flow they have, theyre in hot shooting stretch now than they have the last decades or so. What we need is a physical/bruiser big. Like Biyombo type or Dwight. We getting stops but we aint rebounding well off those stops. Momentum killers

  15. I hold a different view than most of the Lakers fans.
    1. I trust Joey and Jesse Buss in their identification of talent. JHS shouldn't be a tear down of the Lakers staff just because of his injuries.
    2. It was mostly accepted that this roster construction was exceptional this summer, but after a multitude of injuries, our roster has too many flaws.
    3. When compared to other Locked On Network Affiliates, we shy away from criticizing LeBron. For example, Sums criticizing KD in his recent effort.
    4. It must be Darvin's fault.
