  1. Ah, StarTropics. Insane Nintendo has STILL kept this American exclusive. You'd think this would be used as a Star Fox 2 style buying incentive for NES Classic in Japan, at least, but no.

  2. yknow what? you're totally right. most of the games you cover on this are catagorically not stuff i'd play, and honestly, it's why I started watching this channel. Pretty good idea in retrospect, superb work!

  3. I'm so glad to finally know what that poster on your wall was from! Feels "full circle", in a way, haha. Not to mention the background and tunes from your intro. That's so cool. I love hearing how passionate you are about the games you love, it always makes for a fun and informative watch (◍•ᴗ•◍)

  4. I love the frantic google searching not knowing what the game was, because this was me with Harley's Humungous Adventure, a game I only rented once for SNES but remembered so distinctly.

  5. I used to play this game a lot as a kid too. I was never able to finish it. But I first played it at my uncle Mike's house. I would play it anytime I came over to his house. And eventually bought my own copy while it was on clearance at a toy store after the N64 had already been out. I was in middle school at that point and had found $40 randomly on the side of the road in an envelope while walking back from a friend's house. It was a busy road so we assume it had simply flown out of someone's car window. We split it in half an then walked to the local mall and I bought this thing thing because I had never been able to finish it an it was like $5.

I'll never forget that. And that's when I got to finally sit down and beat the game during that summer all those years later.

  6. Great video, it's really interesting learning what 'that' game is for other people, and to the point it's influenced your choice for background and sort of theme is even more so.

  7. Startropics to me embodies what I call the wild west era of gaming. Basically in the 80s it was a anything goes kind of deal when it came to the games that were made back then. You don't see games like this anymore unless it's from the indie scene. Like a game that's as stereotypically western as Startropics just to appeal to the western market? You ain't gonna see a game like this nowadays and that helps make it feel special.

  8. You have converted another into a Startropics enjoyer. Happy 10!

DQMJ was The Game for me. Love it so, so much. I also played it for the first time when I was like five.
Now imagine a sequel being released to it 25 years ago and it sucking the most balls a game possibly could :DD.

  9. James, I know this sounds weird but if you want a copy of the Startropics issue of Nintendo Power then I’d suggest getting in touch with ProJared. A while back it was basically an in-joke for as many people as possible to send Jared that very issue, and people did it. A lot. So he might actually still have a bunch of them sitting around he doesn’t want!

  10. If you want something truly special and magical released in the modern times, you should play Furquest. It is one of the best games I have ever played. The jokes are corny but so lovely. The story seems shallow but ends up deep and sweet. It kind of is like growing up? The game is unconventional in every way.

  11. I think for me, the game that did this for me as a kid, and this took a LOT of thinking about, was Super Mario Galaxy. I had played Mario games before that and have played many others since but I genuinely think it was that game that made me go “yeah, video games aren’t just a toy, they aren’t just a fun little thing, their art and I love them, it’s my favorite medium”

  12. This video actually made me tear up out of happiness because nothing is more heartfelt than showing absolute admiration and adoration for a game that started it all for you than making it your whole motif as a content creator

    God bless your soul, Nitro

  13. As a WR speedrunner for ST2 and a top 5 runner for ST1, i couldn't agree more. This is THE game that made me love video games. Sure, I played Mario first but this game was the first game that truly challenged me and introduced me to how gripping and complex the media can be. Startropics 2 was the first game i asked for my parents to get me on launch day. I love it so much i found a reliable way to have the final boss spawn mostly heads and not hands lmao
