I have a question for anyone with sufficient expertise.
This reminds me of those little num pad dongles banks used to give out for extra security when doing online banking. The num pad thing has 0 connection to any network, it ONLY has its internal algorithm which generates new single use login PINs on demand.
My guess is it works totally algorithmically, where both the numpad and your account in the database share an encrypted ‘seed’ key or something, from which you can repeatedly generate valid master passwords.
Is this how the DS parental lock master password works too? My initial thought was it must work algorithmically in order to be able to reverse engineer and crack the password without needing Nintendo. There’s no way each 3DS serial number has a unique master password, right?
