  1. I could have bought one just like this one dirt cheap from my buddy that owns the local junk yard. It had a blown head gasket. The parts were spendy and hard to get so I passed on it. Still kicking my self in the ass because about a week later a guy from East Coast paid my buddy like ten grand for it. I could have gotten it for 500 bucks.

  2. Some people are like "That car would be a great fun car!"… They don't realize… You live in the Midwest, down gravel roads… I don't think the Germans intended that car to be sent down a gravel road like the Duke Boys were driving it. Cool car though!

  3. I was amazed how you were able to pop off the names of your favorite bands to your nephew, the Hansons the monkees the Archies. You definitely were a rebel in the day. Lol , that euro trash… nothing but heartaches that will leave you broke.

  4. You should have checked out the transmission configuration on that puppy. Clutch is in the bell housing and then there is a torque tube back to the transaxle.
I changed several of those.. not too bad, once you get the hang of it.
One time, a 944 came in and the owner said that before it quit running, he had to decide whether to change the clutch or the timing belt… he chose wrong. The timing belt snapped and it Mortske'd a valve. Had to pull the cylinder head.. it didn't break the piston, but it damaged the combustion chamber pretty well. Anyway, sent the head out to be pressure tested, it was fine. I put it back together and it ran pretty well, even with the damaged combustion chamber.

  5. The door handles look identical to the Audi 5000. Also very notorious for breaking internally and good luck opening the door when it's broken. I'm amazed the intake boot was in a fine shape usually mice and rats love to eat these up and ruin the throttle body as well. Mechanical fuel pump? Fuel pumps are notorious on failing on these old German cars and most of the time finding a replacement is a real bugger. Chin did a fantastic job with the sensors. These German cars don't like running on low octane gasoline, bad gasoline or ethanol enriched gasoline. The older the car the more picky it is on fuel. Fouled injectors on German cars is a very common issue specially when it's ran with god knows what in the fuel tank. Mojo is like my Granny who never left the country ever. I will say Sir Mortske you did fine in getting the Porsche running and helping out your relative.

  6. My first vehicle was a '66 Chevy pickup. I made enough money with that to buy a used Porsche. My favorite car but a money pit. Went next to a '74 Firebird Formula 400. If the Porsche did not have rust issues I would have kept it. Thanks for stepping out of the norm!
