  1. Hard to find bios obtained easily from a for parts laptop of the exact same model and year make yourself a library of bios images from such sources saves a lot of trouble

  2. SPOILER:

Lesson I've learnt from this is always check you can get the BIOS version and have at least tried it before risking buying an expensive EC chip when you have this type of fault.

  3. Mr Sorin. I have a very very strange and unique problem with my Alienware X15 r2 laptop . I7 12700h and RTX 3070ti. I hope you read this and can give me an idea what might be wrong .

My laptop works perfectly , for days and days as long as I don't turn it off , as long as I keep it in sleep mode .

But once I turn it off and instantly back on or reboot it, I get blinking error code "2red 3 blue" , which means" ram not found"

But if I wait 5 to 10min and turn it on the laptop turns on normal.

Now I have replaced the bios chip, but the problem is still there , so this s not it.

While the laptop is on I have run prime 95 and all kind of memory tests for 2 days, and no error has been showned, everything is perfect.

My next idea is to try and replace the EC chip

This is a very mysterious case I have never experienced, do u have any idea what is wrong ?

  4. Those kind of faults, are like gamble. You don't know if you will get your money back when you order a replacement part.
You will lose your money or you will get payed for the part and also your job.

  5. @electronicsrepairschool if you can wait, tomorrow i will come back to my lab: my girlfriend has the same laptop…i Think the motherboard is identical, and I can extract the bios for you!!!!

  6. If it's liquid damage the keyboard could be faulty aswell. Did you try to disconnect the keyboard? Think there was a similar problem a few weeks ago where the laptop wouldn't start because of broken keyboard.

  7. Sorin, programming the EC chip or at least trying to read it before replacing it would have shown if it was damaged or not especially since it was not shorted (may be for the next time). Any how I really enjoyed this video because it was very educational and you walked us through all aspects of the laptop power-up which I am still struggling to understand. Great work!

  8. Hi
1st check SM_D SM_C comminication on battery side is that going on means battery detected by io then This issue could be also from Thermal IC and Charging IC which is in connection with IO and battery and also with CPU .
IF Thermal IC NTC Resister or BJT is damaged it will not allow anyother Activity to happen even Battery Charging.

  9. Asus should be ashamed! I still use my trusty build like a tank Dell Precision M6400 from 2008!! And i can find ALL the software including the latest BIOS update on the Dell website. Even from a Dell M6400 build in 2008. Now THAT'S customer service! Dell is by far one of the very best laptop manufactures. Proof that Sorin don't get much Dell laptops. Just Junk Lenovo's…

  10. (14:05) Of course NO, you are not the only one who feels bad about failing, since my distant school days I bought everything for double (I even built the circuits on two breadboards) and at the exact moment when he (The instructor or teacher) wanted to see how it worked, they both failed! when half an hour before both were working fine. In today's real work life, it may happen that when the customer comes to pick up their device, it does not work! I take off my glasses, put both hands on my temples and look at the sky… Need I say more? All the best.

PS: That subject of logic & digital circuits made me suffer… Microprocessors? Another hellish stuff ☹.

  11. Lesson 1:- Never buy Asus products.
The motherboard has lots of space to connect a normal pin type EC chip but they selected a BGA EC chip. And the motherboard has no silkscreen components marking.

  12. What if battery needs to send an ok signal. I know not normally like this but designers are over engineering everything now. Try a different original battery? Otherwise PCH kaput .

  13. I had used ASUS motherboards in many desktops machines, and had no problems with them. Good quality, price and Linux compatibility. That was about 10 years ago. I guess a lot had changed since then. CPU and memory chips soldered on the board is now a dead giveaway they want the board to fail early, but just out of warranty (can they arrange the failure in programing ??)

  14. so is the s1 programmer able to detect the type of ec chip automatically? or like other versions you need the schematics to get the chip programmed correctly. any one with info please answer. thanks

  15.
