  1. Nope not a powerstroke engine, we don't get powerstroke engines here in the UK and europe, it's a colabiration between JLR and the PSA group (Citroen/peugeot), being fitted in verious Jaguar's from the the late 90's S type onwards, Landrover discovery 3,4, and 5 and also some Citroens namely the C6. Powerful for what it is, but does tend to break crankshafts if not looked after. They do sound great though when the are running healthy.

  2. When you started the video I was half expecting to see an engine with a broken crank – a common issue with the PSA / Ford developed Lion / DV6 engine. If the crank will clean up it has value – certainly in Europe- but I'm not sure how much demand there would be in the US. For cutting open paper filter elements a decent bread knife works well…. just don't let your significant other catch you.

  3. 45:22 – yes, crank worth money. They crack and are sought after😉

BTW – To lock crank from rotation – put a block of wood between counterweight and block wall. Super simple, wood protects everything from dents.

  4. What a piece of engineering:

Common head design (look at cam shaft chains….bank 1 at rear, bank 2 at front)
    belt driven cams
separate belt for HP injection pump at rear of engine
Cam covers with integrated intake manifold

what bean counter got this one by the engineering staff on a premium vehicle….and a diesel????????

  5. In the UK where I live, many of those 2.7 and 3.0 are PSA (Peugeot/Citroen) and Ford find on Jag and Land Rover. This crankshaft snaps around 70,000 miles. Due to the lack of oil lubricants inside the crankshaft which is made in Turkey. When inspecting the broken shaft there are a few bubble holes inside the metal which is poor made, it should be fully smooth and solid metal. Some say to put wrong oil type in 5w/40 it should be 5w/30. Be warned to check the service history before purchasing the 2.7/3.0 engine.

  6. The only thing I can think of, with one cylinder fileting itself like that is coolant channels plugged up around that cylinder and thus prompting the cylinder material to start super heating. Eventually, this can cause vertical scratches due to the sides of the piston getting so hot that the piston material starts melting & deforming itself. Keep in mind that diesel fuel burns hotter than gas and has to have adequate coolant & oil flow to properly lubricate & cool the entire engine. Otherwise, it'll go cannibalistic and start eating itself from the inside out. If anyone wishes to correct me on this feel free to chime in. 🤔

  7. Was the bad piston that had the iffy injector right? considering the rust on that injector, i think it was leaking either water or fuel (maybe 1 first then the other) past the actual injector body. The fuel wash theory makes the most sense, you may not notice anything wrong other than a check engine light that it's burning rich. In the car these engines are next to impossible to service, they also have a lot of stuff around them. I'm sure the owner heard a quote did a 360 and walked away thinking it runs so ignore it. The hole in the pan is probably incidental and happened afterwards, maybe engine was dropped from a hoist on to a rock or something sharp on the ground that hole is too small and perfect, this engine didn't sit outside I don't think, just in a moist environment. It doesn't matter how buttoned up an engine is if it's sat in the weather, water WILL get in and show itself, at least you'd see some fungus or something growing. Moist environments will creep rust everything.

It could also be multiple factors, if the owner was the kind to not check their oil or whatever, maybe it overheated plus had fuel wash and this is the end result.

  8. i rebuild the same engine from my citroen c5 (ajd6 , dt20) , it was designer by ford and psa , the crank bolt is torques at 100nm + 90 angle , for unscrewing i use a 1inch impact

  9. It would be amazing if you did a best to worst engine review based on build of engine and what you’ve seen break. And any notes 🗒️ on what you loved or hated about engine design. That would be fascinating. I’m a guy that doesn’t work on engines with a 2023 4Runner I love but I find your channel fascinating

  10. Great vid as usual Eric, a shame you dropped that valuable water pump tho!

And I get why you bought the Bird. I have done that more than once haha

Happy new year, can't wait to see what you come up with in 2024. 🙂
