  1. You know…I get it Balders Gate is probably good (I haven't played it) but for years I think we all have been waiting for a Fable-like game that is just amazing in all aspects. Fuckin Hogwarts is that game!!!.. there's no "oh, you gotta get past so and so and then it's good" heard that about Elden Ring, Diablo and Balders Gate yet these games keep getting the shine. Shit looks amazing, forces you to actually appreciate the design, and makes you wish there were VR version so you can roam Hogwarts and see all the magical moving parts in real time…I could go on… but man, no spot on the list? DO IT OVER!!!. I get it the BG devs did something…nice of em, but another iso rpg? Been there…Hogwarts feels different.

  2. Holy shit! It’s actually possible to have an awards show where it’s about the awards! Well done Gameranx👏🏻 there’s games y’all mentioned that I haven’t even gotten to but I will be now!! Keep up the great work!!!

  3. Okay, honestly no offense at all as I loved the content, I love your channel, I am a subscriber, I prefer you lot over IGN, Gamespot, WhatCulture, and I'm all about simplicity. I have produced and edited films, commercials, sports and studio packages, weddings, documentaries, web series, instructional design, pretty much everything…for nearly 2 decades, and I absolutely despised doing auto commercials specifically, because of the intensive title/graphics/keyframing I had to do in After Effects. So I get it. I understand the process. Believe me.

This scene/setting works for an everyday video. But maybe start branding some of these harder-hitting series. I'll probably get hate for this comment, but honestly just trying to help. For this video, we are talking about the BEST GAMES over the span of the whole year. You are strictly a game channel and you are recapping an entire year and giving out awards. Obviously I don't have a channel with 8 mil subscribers, but if I did, I would try to make it look a little more professional than a frat house vibe, which is how I feel when I watched this. With all the tools at your disposal in this day and age, there's really no excuse. Add some title graphics for each award, an intro graphic, a music montage — there's not even titles for what game you're talking about. I know Youtube journalism, especially with the advent of 2020, has become "plop a camera in your living room and just talk" — but you guys are better than that or I wouldn't bother writing all this. The content is there. Just add some polish. Again — not for every video or piece of news. But for this specifically… I think it would only help propel you guys higher.

Also, you should add a VR category. And was there a driving/racing category? (might have missed the latter)

  4. What about couch co-op games? Where did they all go?! Gaming is a social thing for me with my friends or my brother. All we have left is a ruined FIFA (FC24), a very limited split screen in COD MW, Helldivers (which is fun for up to 10 hours) and a couple of games that don’t interest me like It Takes Two.

Please give couch co-op gaming some attention ✌🏼

  5. Excellent choices!! Great job. Appreciate you, Jake and Gameranx team.

I need to say this, though: the half-dozen games awarded/recognized here that feature anime or cartoon style graphics (including Tears of the Kingdom)… I can not be the only chronic/veteran gamer that just absolutely detests this art style, and subsequently simply can not get behind supporting any of those games.

It might be the forty-something in me, obviously, but man… cartoons are for kiddos. Adults like me just ain’t interested in that stuff.

  6. I'm an action/adventure gamer mostly and don't delve into other genres frequently. My favorites this year:
    Spider-man 2
    Jedi: Survivor
    Metroid Prime Remastered
    Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy was my second time playing an action/RPG. I enjoyed the combat and picked up a PS5 to play it when it dropped. I'm glad I didn't wait as they really didn't make it 'slim'.

I never finished Metroid Prime before this year. I gave up when playing on the GameCube because I hated the controls. What on Earth was the c-stick? What was Nintendo thinking? When Nintendo released it for the Wii, I again attempted to finish this game. The controls still sucked IMO, but better than GameCube. I did attempt on the Wii twice, several years apart to no avail. It just wasn't fun for me. I was at Best Buy earlier this year when I saw it on the racks. I got out my phone and looked up what they 'remastered'. I was overjoyed to see that they overhauled the controls and so I picked it up. And yes, I just admitted all that. I had a lot of fun playing even all these years later. Well thought out controls are extremely important to me. Maybe that should be another category?

  7. No VR? Should be it’s own category. If you’re a VR naysayer and have never tried it you owe it to yourself to give it a go. There’s something special about being inside a video game

  8. Despite the major disappointment that is Starfield, 2023 was still an AMAZING year for gaming.

My wife just bought me BG3 for Christmas, and I'm so freakin' in love with it!
Oh yeah, and I guess my wife too….I haven't seen her since Christmas, hope she's okay… 🧐

  9. For categories, what if you added a Most/Best Meta category? Games with meta components seem to be on the rise, so 2024 could see a good chunk of those on their way.
Also, a Best Plot Twist one may be decent as well. Sure, it's kind of an extension of the Best Plot one, but sometimes a plot twist comes so out of nowhere and hits so hard that it does a ton of legwork for the game.
I dunno, I'm just some random internet dude.
