There's a video somewhere here of a guy restoring a processor pad. He set fire to the shielding braid, the threads fused into balls at the ends, took one thread, flattened the ball with pliers, and glued it to the pad (the rest is like yours, but a microscopic operation).
So, what he did is really cool! In your place, it's easier to solder a jumper wire.
