  1. ATTENTION: it has been brought to my attention that the super DMG motherboard has an issue with the link port. The design on the board I used in the video has a couple traces that are incorrect and could cause damage if connected to another Game Boy via a link cable. Since my video was released it has been corrected by kamicane and the updated design has been uploaded to his GitHub. Unfortunately the kits sold by J&T Studios most likely have the issue with the link port. I recommend that you do not purchase the kit unless you do not plan to use the link port. Huge thank you to consolesandcasks for bringing this to my attention 👍 Cheers!

  2. That's really cool, I just think that loosing the Nintendo startup logo removes some of the authenticity. Not to mention I think I'd rather harvest it from a broken DMG than the super Gameboy as I think those are rarer. Also, I don't mind waiting a few seconds to play.
I often have to wait 40 minutes for console and game updates on modern consoles as I don't play often haha

  3. So a SGB was gutted to build a Game Boy clone with a nonfunctional link port? Bummer. Cool that this project exists but it would be a lot cooler if you didn't need to destroy original hardware.

  4. How does the new board affect battery life?
Is it the same as the original board (with the same screen) or were they able to improve efficiency?
Although, I guess most power is consumed by the screen and the CPU anyway, so there's not much they can do about it?

  5. Only "Cons" I could see is that with a modern take on a older unit, wouldn't a sd card slot make sense? Also USB-C Charging would be another welcomed update. Other than that its perfect.

  6. Like your tweezers any make and model ? Also Awesome video once again. Too bad we can't just buy the cpu's like we do for PC's, Probably only built for the Game Boy, closed source.

  7. Hey Tito! Another great video in the bag. I have one small critique on your soldering of the chip. You should tin the pads prior to setting the chip on the board to create stronger connections from the board to the legs of the chip.

  8. This is awesome – But please reconsider advertising the destruction of a SGB for the CPU.

It reminds me of everyone who was destroying a perfectly good Playchoice 10 board, just to put the PPU in their NES.

  9. It was so ridiculous that you claimed that there were no cons to this. Why undermine an otherwise good video with such a stupid claim? You're clearly letting those affiliate links get in the way of you publishing accurate and useful information. Of course you'd be urging people to spend a bunch of money on the parts needed to buy these when you have a partnership with the sellers, and you can't monetise second hand DMGs which are dirt cheap in comparison.

  10. Not mentioning the requirement to salvage a CPU is a pretty big con. This is difficult soldering work and you’re potentially trashing perfectly functional original hardware (as you did here). I don’t feel that this is fully in keeping with ‘preservation’.

I’m, definitely more of a fan of solutions which don’t use old parts.

  11. I'm surprised that the mod didn't include swapping out the AA batteries for an internal rechargable battery pack via USB-C. That would seem like a logical jump from old school to new with this mod as well.
