LS camshaft bearings…. They’re fine until you look at them 👀
Hey Ray, what are your thoughts on the AFM/DFM Disabler that plugs into OBD2 port that makes the engine stay in V8 mode full time?
Crocs? Maaan you a bad mf 😂
Maybe you should get a degree and go to Detroit you might learn why things are designed that way
I swear, your process of removing things is the most convoluted thing I've ever seen. I don't know if you're making it harder on yourself on purpose (for the views) or are you just a bit ADHD and squirl back and forth until the job is done …
Otherwise great video, keep up the good work.
Nice safety Crocs Ray 😂
The owner of the car should of bought some headers
As far as you went on that motor, I don’t know why you didn’t re-ring and put new bearing in it to, may as well complete the rebuild.
My 6.2 Silverado lifters lasted 95,000 and dealer replaced and repaired under warranty. So ready for another 90+ thousand miles. My truck gets 24+ mpg on the freeway. Best ever trip was 29mpg. It’s a beast to. Lights the tires up. Lol
I did a hyper tech disable a couple of weeks ago on my 2017 Z71. We shall see if it makes a difference in the long run.
Is the block not going to the machine shop also ?
In my experience the money saved on gas from AFM pays for itself even if lifters go, 2007 Silverado LTZ over 100k miles still runs fine. Over 17mpg is as good as brand new V8 trucks.
Your bypassing the DOD correct? Hope so that systems junk
It's amazing – for how long GM has been making this engine and how there are so many weak spots. Sad.
Should have thrown the water pump
Variable displacement is a fantastic theory but in the real world is a bad bad idea… Bad things happen WHEN it breaks!
Question is the block headed over to the machine shop?
Speaking of machine what’s the status on the Van Engine you and Eric are working on?
"I got a fever, and the prescription is MORE PRYBAR!" Put that on your merch.
A SILLY SYSTEM…🤮
GO RAYRAY…👍👍
You mean to tell us that LS engines DON'T come with those two outer exhaust bolts snapped off from the factory?
You kinda made me cringe a little as you pulled that cam out. That was a little "rougher" than I expected, lol. There's a few companies that make tools that help with pulling and installing cams, giving the leverage needed to hold them level and reduce the chance of nicking a cam bearing. To be honest though, with how far you took that engine down, I am surprised they aren't just having the whole thing rebuilt.
Also, what is the reason you break free the rockers with a ratchet before running the bolts out with the impact driver?
Are those OSHA approved crocs you’re wearing Ray?
Why would you invest that much time and money on a front-wheel drive v8 why not get a rear wheel drive v8
Whatever happened to the tow truck 🤷🏻♂️ Have you done away with it?
Parts Cannon fired…
Hopefully those bolts in the front cover aren't too long, causing that break. I'd make sure before putting them back in and torquing.
i never got to work on a V engine when i was a trainee mechanic. service on a straight 6 of some kind, merc maybe but that's about it. not as many opportunities to work on them here in England. always wanted to though. too much electronic stuff on modern engines for me
Thanks for the video Ray. No 4 non blonde reference <— Opps I did it anyways
How do you keep track of all the bolts and where they go in order to reassemble
I guess the computer will have to be programed
Steel toe Crocs, for the win!
Just watched sleeperdude do this exact same job on his personal vehicle. Thank you for making this video. I enjoy learning about how these systems work.
Great tear down!
Ray needs like 50 Jars for all the nuts and bolts … I know I would lose some if I was doing this …
Are we going to see some more walnut shell blasting on those piston tops?
Thanks for the video.
I am wondering what is the labor cost of this how this makes ANY sense sure I have no idea monte carlso SS etc but for "car" this makes NO sense … can someone explain ? Recently I was in a shop for a simple tire fix… the sign showed $175 / hour … that should be even higher for someone like Ray so $200 an hours how and why this would make any sense ?
How many batteries does it take to take it apart
so why not a complete overhaul to me you are doing only half the job its not much more money for cam bearings rods and main bearings and rings
Ray you need a Gaylord box to body slam the water pumps like Eric does.
Why isn’t the customer doing the entire engine? It’s not too many parts from a blank slate. This video is interesting and educational but the car itself isn’t.
Before the fast and furious movies no 4 door was desirable.
