  1. Blimey, after watching that I don't think I'll bother with replacing my faulty screen. One day I might, but the prices are pretty high for something I'll just end up putting in a drawer somewhere lol.

  2. Hi Kip, thanks for the vid. I’d be interested to see you try a game that uses the master system. I’ve installed one of these and having issues with castle of illusion. I’d be interested to know if it’s the kit or my GG.

  3. Nice job Kip👍. I did one similar a while back with another Aliexpress kit. I was wondering if it would have been easier to install the ribbon to the new screen PCB first and then attach that PCB to the game gear one, and then solder the ribbon? Also you could probably just get some switch or contact cleaner and just give it a squirt into the volume control without taking the unit back apart to sort out the crackle. Keep up the great work. Best wishes Mick.

  4. Nice video Kip! The first time we do this job, it takes a bit of fiddling with details, but the second and beyond it gets pretty straightforward! The image quality of these screens is amazing!

  5. This was the same kitt I used in my baby blue gamegear, but this screen was alot different, bigger and seems worse some how and dis pay arown 58€ for it. I do like it exept the flexible ribbon, everything is easier without it, pads for wire is clear labelled, and it goes faster. Removing the coil is better for batterie consumtion i think.
Good thing about ali express is that they ship al over the world alot of smaller websites only ship to UK and America. Or you pay 60£ in shipping.

Thank you for the brilliant video! looking forward to the comparecy between the kitts,

  6. Kev here. l Im watching the video now and Im pleased you are impressed with the cap replacement job. I have done about a half dozen cap replacements and Its made my day that you like my work, the fealing is mutual. Cheers mate

  7. I have fond that with that wire that has the casing that melts really easy using heat shrink is a good idea. With the post for the cartridge that was cut I would think super glue and baking soda would repair it enough to get a good part of the thread of the screw in.

  8. Hi Kip, would love the comparison of the mods you suggested, and some kind of loose ratings based on ease of installation, how they look and obviously cost. I'm looking to upgrade my Game Gear at some point but honestly have never even soldered, so baby steps 🙂

  9. Past experience with various screen mods on GB, GBA and other consoles has taught me that the easiest and most user friendly way to do some of these mods (like this one) is to attach all the cables to the new daughter board first. Then you install the daughter board and do all of your soldering work.
