Refreshing to know that there are still people out there who have decency and respect for others
I had an O2 sensor code on my 08 Subaru 3.6.
i checked for vaccum leaks, changed spark plugs 140 and they were originals. They looke great wish I hadn't done that and O2 sensors. Finally brought it to a local shop with a good reputation and they charged 165 diagnostic+parts and labor which was something like $440.00 total.
They replaced MAF sensor. Problem solved.
But we really want to know what YOU guys did to figure out the issue!!!
I'm not expecting anything for free. I don't want to pay some guy to throw parts on it till he hits a home run.
.
I would never take a car to a dealer… Flat rate is the problem
Wisdom never fails…..
Couldn't the dealer just take back to of them sensors and give you fair deal on labor because it's not fixed
This modern world confuses me … I worked as a mechanic when I left school for a couple of years.
I was paid a fixed wage, no matter what I did … So one did the job, for the wage.
The thought of not doing a thorough job would not cross my mind. That to me is a total lack of self respect.
A man should listen to his heart. So often we teach men to snuff out that feeling.
I like this guy. He a sensible guy with good morals.
I took my Durango into the dealer when it was misfiring. I told the Service manager that it was #6 spark plug & coil!
They let the mechanic said no that it was the Catalytic Converter! And they ordered a new one under warranty and installed the Cat!
I got in to drive out of the dealership and it started bucking again. I went back to the dealer and had the service manager ride with me. and immediately he said turn around. They replaced the coil and the spark plug and it has worked perfectly since!!
Underboost codes can also be cause by sooo many things. Throwing a couple sensors at that problem is crazy. Internal wastegate sticking or damaged, vacuum leak, damaged impeller, electronic WG actuator not reading proper position, partially clogged cats, etc etc
Flat rate is one of the reasons I did not go into auto mechanics after tech school. For auto mechanics!
As Evenflow said today, "Know your worth"!!!
Usually this comes with experience.. dealer Usually only works on particular car and common codes just comes naturally with these cars especially turbo codes. The usual with Turbo code is Underboost Usually its the actual worn Turbo.. Overboost is usually with boost controller either vacuum or electronically controlled..
Dont trust mechanics or Drs dentists.. jus my xp
You're 100% correct Dave. Dealership isn't paying the mechanics too confirm double check.👍🏻🇺🇲
Surprise! It's the air filter. As a Parts adviser, It's been hell getting the OE filter for these for years. Finally got flooded with them a couple months ago. Almost all aftermarket air filters will induce this code.
You lose all the love working for a large organisation. You have more love working for a small family business. This is the same what happened to me 20 years in the game.
I love this guy
We need more techs like you dave!
Idk i see a lot of incompetence around my area.. but at the base of incompetence is the lack of pay as stated. The ones who know and are good don't get what they deserve. So shops hire anyone they can whether they can diag or not and the boss won't usually pay to allow them to take the time to learn on shop time. So usually places get complacent with throwing parts at vehicles.. nobody is perfect, but guessing isn't how it's done
Dealership have part changers not mechanics
I now for sure those dealer techs prob don’t get paid enough for a lot of jobs that are rated a certain amount of hours when they know damn well it’s not that short of a job
😅 My Dave Dad learn How should I work from my heart ❤..
God bless you Dave Dad
I wonder if it's the turbo, or wastegate..
Dave I think I would have like to work with you Ilove your content and find it informative keep up the good work 😢😅😅😅😅😅
Dave must be the coolest boss out there. I do so much charity work, kills me
So true, astronomical repair costs are making it hard to afford to help people. Wish there were more guys like you, few places left I can recommend to customers.
Preach. They’re paying them to swap parts. Period. If you want someone that’s paid to actually troubleshoot, they go to you.
These guys remind me of the mechanic version of Ron McLean and Don Cherry
My son and I Always Confirm repairs. A Majority of the time…. it's After it's been put on a "reader" at a dealership, and parts swapped😮💨‼️
Most "dealers" around here use the "book" #'s; regardless of the time Needed to do it properly, and the mech's get a flat rate. In order to make a living, many race through, "repair", and it's out the door. Normally, that's when we see them. It's sad; but to your point, they Shouldn't have to work for free‼️
Dave, I believe you’re 100% correct. Dealer mechanics aren’t getting paid for the job. I believe that has to do with society today because as a general rule we want everything and we want it for nothing. Because that’s the general demand, dealerships need to pay and charge flat rate which doesn’t make bad mechanics, just makes them do what the computer tells them and voila, job done. I personally will not take my truck to any flat rate shop!!! You get what you pay for. Buy once, cry once is my motto. It may cost more the first time to get the job done right but it’s less expensive in the long run.
Dave is excellence personified. He walks the talk and understands the job and career. He knows more than he shows. And he knows almost everything engine related. Fcking Champion 😎
Is that fckn flat rate system they got, that's the problem plain and simple..
always run the drive cycle 20min at the most if you csnt set the monitors by then learn how to most 10min
how about some techs that want to be paid even when the miss diagnose. they want to learn at the cusomers expence. thats what training for. i say fix it right or dont get paid !
Thats why book time is 💩
Let me guess…oil changes!
LOVE your content.
The techs don’t get paid to confirm you’re right but the shop foreman in many cases signs off on the diagnostic so… why should the tech not get paid AND argue with the shop
Foreman
I’ve got an old, lol “old” 2005 24 valve with 304,000 miles on it. That I’d love to take to Dave and his team in the next couple years to rebuild.
I have the same turbo underboost code in one of my Transit 250 sprinter vans! My codes only indicate that there may be a problem with the turbochargers… Is the only thing I really have an option for based on the codes I'm given
