I still have my Astro Wars stashed away with a load of attic stuff, and after hearing those dulcet tones again, I think I might have to see if it still works!
January 1, 2024. RESULT mate!
I think it's minus 6 volts on the main board if I remember correctly, 0 volts is the highest voltage on the board
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I remember as a kid having the football game and a submarine game!
Always were too loud😆
Edit
Nice one vince. Noone else shows docking👍
i had exactly this back in about 1983 🙂
Happy New year from holland
As an wise man once said "Stupid Astro Wars Game Thing"
I have one amazing still works
By 1981 we had the ZX81 and soon after, colour computers like the Oric, Spectrum and Commodore Vic so these basic stand alone games were a dying breed. Great to see one fixed though, nice 👍
I had the exact model played it for hours on end. Now aged 53 watching your video and hearing that melody and sounds when you powered it on brought back so many nostalgic memories. Thank you so much for sharing.
I had one of these and the display failed. It's probably long gone now.
Anyway, for the battery contacts I would use a contact cleaner or label remover that is citric acid based. It cleans up the corrosion quite well with no impact on the device. Best one to get though is one with the built in brush so you actually spray through the brush. Very handy.
I loved Astro Wars. Sadly, I blew mine up by plugging my ZX Spectrum power supply into it… Worked great for a few minutes until it went fizz. Don't think something liked the 9 volts!
Dad had one in the 80's, I used to love it, I am sure it cost him about £89.99 when he bought it new
I had the Space Invaders version of this and for the 80's(before Gameboy) these were great little games.
I think Nintendo Game & Watch existed but not in my area. And there were handheld digital poker games. And a few games that had LED bulbs to symbolize game states. But beyond that there were slim pickings for handheld games.
Me and my brother had one of these when they first came out many years ago!!. More interesting than playing games on your smart phone!! 😁
The sound effects take me way back. Awesome job Sir.
Another great repair, do a fair bit of repairs myself just cos I enjoy it, dont suppose you'd consider doing a round up of all the tools and stuff you have and what you find the most useful what ones to avoid from expereince. You do seem to have a good smattering of kit these days 🙂
I bought one of these a while back. I paid a lot more though but I don't even think I ever got around to working on it lol
My cousin Gave me his one back in the late 80's still have it but sadly doesn't work now. After watching this I feel like having a go at fixing it.
My first electronic game I think, I know I got the score up to 9999, and then it goes back to zero's 🙂
I remember those. a friend brought his in to school to play during break time.
I brought my yellow Tomy Pac-Man. Wish I still had it.
My mate had one of these , I had (and still have boxed ) the galaxy invader 1000 . Defo a more arcade feel to the astro .Its great that people still have these , if they work why send them to landfill ?
what brand and model is that tester?
Hehe – spent more than a few hours playing this game when I was a kid.
I love the look of these games. Good to see another one saved!
Playing battery terminals like a guitar, class act. I'm sure I've done that.
I got one for Christmas in the 80s, the noise brings back memories. I'm almost sure it's sitting in the loft at my parents house, may have to get dusty and have a look for it
I got this for christmas in the 80's great memories
Nice one Vince, I have a lot of patience but that is dedication. Loved the stream. Happy New Year to you, family and friends. Here's to another great year 2024. ❤
