  1. Lots of folks saying the fans were dirty – they were fine. The light colouring you're seeing is the metal underside of the keyboard through the fans. There's a little surface dust on the fan blades, sure, but this doesn't block airflow. I don't consider it worthwhile to spend another 30mins removing and opening up the fan housing to carefully detail-clean the rotors. Actual fluff and dust bunnies, those should definitely be cleaned, but none of that was present.

  2. Modern laptops are …. not used here. Rocking old stuff Like a Lenovo T-500 with SSD and GNU Linux, and hoping for some lifespan. We live on the wrong side of the pond to have you fixing things for me, grin.

  3. I needed extra screws for a laptop that my brother had tried cleaning and then some screws were missing and others were just wrong. The only place I found them at retail was Temu. Otherwise it's only wholesale by the thousands.

  4. Adam I cant believe you failed to clean out the fans – the most important item for heat pipe cooling. All that for nothing. Meaning a partially blocked air flow wont move air Especially for a high powered unit like that one…

  5. i manually opened a hing on my laptop when i did the same cable mistake and without opening yhe whole lid i broken the sceen, right near the hinge, would be safer if you just reopened the lid to change the cables

  6. Dell have had some huge issues with hinges and garbage inserts these past few years haven't they…

I don't get what is so hard about it. I even have a Dell with an entirely aluminium chassis but for some idiotic reasons they still attached plastic holding the brass inserts which inevitably cracks, they didn't used to do this before around 2017.

Dell do tend to use a 40 pin eDP connector for 120Hz+ displays these days, there are some 120Hz with 30 pin models though.

  7. Very nice – Must have cost them a fair bit to get that fixed, but it's worth it.
After shopping around for months, (Even considering a micro PC with Ryzen 6800HS for ÂŖ420), I decided to get an older quality laptop (A Gigabyte Aero 14 with i7 7700 & GTX 1050 Ti for ÂŖ230), and get it upgraded to WIIN 11 because I don't like the idea that RAM is soldered onto the mother board of modern laptops, especially after paying a fortune for a modern one that's capable of running games.
Iv'e got some Thermal Grizzly – Kryonaut but I'm just waiting for a T6 torx to arrive to get the back off, but was unsure about the amount of thermal paste ide have to use – So watching your vid is helpful – Good work, well done.

  8. This happens to loads of our corporate Vostro i5-3510's, all the time. Its a manufacturing defect, but Dell repeatedly deny it and wont replace it under warranty. We've sent s**tloads of the things away for repairs and got more use out of them, but it shouldnt be happening in the first place.

  9. Is that a miniware screwdriver you are using? I am considering getting one but its quite pricey especially for "I just can't be bothered to turn my perfectly fine wera screwdriver". Do you like it?

  10. I've bought from Cambridge Accesories before and would recommend them. Their grading scheme is fair – Grade 'A' will be practically perfect and, in my experience, even grade 'C' components will have some signs of wear but no damage.
