Lots of folks saying the fans were dirty – they were fine. The light colouring you're seeing is the metal underside of the keyboard through the fans. There's a little surface dust on the fan blades, sure, but this doesn't block airflow. I don't consider it worthwhile to spend another 30mins removing and opening up the fan housing to carefully detail-clean the rotors. Actual fluff and dust bunnies, those should definitely be cleaned, but none of that was present.
I've had my laptop, Asus GL502, for about 7 years and it has no problems at all despite being used every day so when you say modern laptops are crap you should have said "some".
I did exactly the same repair to my daughterâs laptop following one of your earlier videos. Great success. Cheers mate..
Modern laptops are …. not used here. Rocking old stuff Like a Lenovo T-500 with SSD and GNU Linux, and hoping for some lifespan. We live on the wrong side of the pond to have you fixing things for me, grin.
To think your video comes out the day before someone contacts me to repair the exact same laptop for a similar issue.
This has adequately prepared me for the repair process.
Holy shit, you suck so hard…
The fans looked pretty gross.lol
I needed extra screws for a laptop that my brother had tried cleaning and then some screws were missing and others were just wrong. The only place I found them at retail was Temu. Otherwise it's only wholesale by the thousands.
i will fix old ones.
use wd40
The old HP Spectre XT is a hinge nightmare, i have changed hundreds and also panels
New plastic cabinet & hinges too. The owner will love it. Excellent work. A sincere congratulations. Thank you very much for sharing. All the best.
I can repair that broken area with permanent solution, with unnoticeable work.
parts are mega cheap for his model!
Adam I cant believe you failed to clean out the fans – the most important item for heat pipe cooling. All that for nothing. Meaning a partially blocked air flow wont move air Especially for a high powered unit like that one…
Why did you not clean the dust in the fans ??
Is the gpu fan clogged with dust?
i manually opened a hing on my laptop when i did the same cable mistake and without opening yhe whole lid i broken the sceen, right near the hinge, would be safer if you just reopened the lid to change the cables
The screen connector can be 40-pin for touch-enabled panels too. Don't ask me how I know that (i will be big sad again).
One of the fans looked like it was pretty jammed up with dust?
Dell have had some huge issues with hinges and garbage inserts these past few years haven't they…
I don't get what is so hard about it. I even have a Dell with an entirely aluminium chassis but for some idiotic reasons they still attached plastic holding the brass inserts which inevitably cracks, they didn't used to do this before around 2017.
Dell do tend to use a 40 pin eDP connector for 120Hz+ displays these days, there are some 120Hz with 30 pin models though.
Very nice – Must have cost them a fair bit to get that fixed, but it's worth it.
After shopping around for months, (Even considering a micro PC with Ryzen 6800HS for ÂŖ420), I decided to get an older quality laptop (A Gigabyte Aero 14 with i7 7700 & GTX 1050 Ti for ÂŖ230), and get it upgraded to WIIN 11 because I don't like the idea that RAM is soldered onto the mother board of modern laptops, especially after paying a fortune for a modern one that's capable of running games.
Iv'e got some Thermal Grizzly – Kryonaut but I'm just waiting for a T6 torx to arrive to get the back off, but was unsure about the amount of thermal paste ide have to use – So watching your vid is helpful – Good work, well done.
All laptops made in the last 6 years do this for a pass time unfortunately.
Saying that 840/820 g3/4 elitebooks are faultless with hinges
Great repair as always Graham
This happens to loads of our corporate Vostro i5-3510's, all the time. Its a manufacturing defect, but Dell repeatedly deny it and wont replace it under warranty. We've sent s**tloads of the things away for repairs and got more use out of them, but it shouldnt be happening in the first place.
Strange looking macbook this time đ. Enjoyed the video
Another successful rebuild, and I always love the attention to detail! Cheers!
Dell make a THIRD line of gaming laptops?.
Is XPS and Alienware not enough?!
Since you have it a part why not take time to clean the fans
Is that a miniware screwdriver you are using? I am considering getting one but its quite pricey especially for "I just can't be bothered to turn my perfectly fine wera screwdriver". Do you like it?
Thst right hand fan was buggging me Graham, you blew the back panel vents but the fan needed a good blow too, any good job mate.
I like to request a windows 11 service video please. Thanks !â
I took mine and just put bolts through
Thanks again Graham another fine video.
nice!.. satisfying sound of the glue pull tab!
U could just use epoxy glue to glue hinges.
Great job again.
I've bought from Cambridge Accesories before and would recommend them. Their grading scheme is fair – Grade 'A' will be practically perfect and, in my experience, even grade 'C' components will have some signs of wear but no damage.
Beefy laptop! Lot of weight on those hinges
I have a G3, It's not the strongest laptop ever made but that thing has been abused. I'm surprised you didn't clean the fan while it was apart.
well nice but probably lenovo laptops are probably better because of the hinge
Dude, you got a Dell!
Hello sir , I donât recall if I have commented to you I know I the live streaming I did those need to return but just wanted to say hello from Miami Florida USA
