The only sentence which come to,me seeing the FM is : simple and beautiful. Even if I prefer the FE 🙂 because you can do all what you do with the FM but more quickly with the aperture priority.
Are you sure the focusing screen is fixed? On some Nikons without interchangeable viewfinders you can still change the screen but through the lens mount rather than just dropping it in from the top.
I bought a new FM2 in about 1990 and it came with a rubber eyepiece. I later bought 2 second hand ones and they also had them. I'm surprised they weren't supplied with the FM. You could also get correction lenses, +3 to -3 I think.
On the FM2 the centre LED is green which I think is an improvement and easier to use.
I didn't know there was such a thing as a threaded PC socket. Is that a standard specification or Nikon specific?
btw your lens is actually AI-S as it has an orange minimum aperture.
