  1. I have a 3 year old oled phone and my Switch OLED that I bought on launch day and those never got burn in. My advice is to always use the screens with minimal brightness setting.

  2. I can only juuuuust about see it in the final gray screen picture linked in the video description. Can't see it in the video at all.

I suppose that is at least a testament to how worst case scenario this is. OLED screen technology is at the least better than it used to be, I'd think, and these screens would be made much more durable simply by the user not leaving the brightness on full blast.

Was good to see the status update!

  3. I'm watching on an IPS monitor and I cant see a difference in color whatsoever. Looked at the footage with my phone and still can't tell. I have the same kit coming in the mail. I'll take your word that the burn in is real.

  4. I see the black lens Slates sitting in the background. Is there any update on these getting restocked? I haven't seen any news on it anywhere. I saw someone say in a Discord that you mentioned in one of your videos that there were production issues, but idk which video, so I have no clue what you said if anything.

  5. Okay, I tried really hard, but I cant see it in the video. I only see some reloading patterns. I also just got f*cked by youtubes new layout which make it really hard to find the linked pictures…
BUT on the pictures I can see the differents. Good work makho 🙂
I would say that it takes a lot of hours in real life gaming to notice a differents.
Maybe Cloudgamestore could add a pixel refresh option or Funnyplaying is doing that in there display kits. With such an option I guess would be the OLED the ultimativ option for all retro fans.

  6. My main issue with most OLED panels on gaming devices isn't burn in, but rather the abismal black to color transition. Grey to grey or color to color is fantastic, better than LCD, but black to color usually leaves a horrendous ghosting trail.

  7. Give you credit for completing the build, then doing the burn in test rather than buying a separate screen for the experiment. Considering it's almost 500 hours on a static screen, burn in could be worse. I couldn't see it in the video and just barely make it out in the pictures. Unfortunate it's a pentile AMOLED but there's not much to be done considering the older tech. I ended up picking up a few Q10 displays for cheap as replacement options but doubt I'll ever need them. Hopefully, at some point, we'll get an updated controller board from Hispeedido with desaturation options. Nice laminated case too.

  8. The moire of the camera and the PWM backlight frequency of the screen make the burn in impossible to see. Even up close on a 4k TV. So pretty pointless footage.
You SHOULD upload pictures to a site like Google Drive (no file size limit) or Cube upload (has a file size limit).
Neither site will recompress the images and simply keep them as is. If you need to, resize the resolution of the pictures and resave them as 100%/lvl 12 JPEG. You won't have any loss of perceptual quality.

You should take pictures of the burn in at a black screen, 5% grey, 25%/50/75/ grey then white. And solid red, green, blue, magenta, yellow, cyan.

Your point comes across but literally no one can see what you are talking about for numerous reasons.

  9. I’ve got this installed in my GBC too, it’s good to know but it’s absolutely not an issue for GB/GBC games.
The lowest brightness on this screen is the perfect brightness IMO and considering the pick up and play aspect that most GB/GBC games generally offer, this won’t really affect anybody wanting to install the OLED screen. Unless you’re a weirdo who leaves their Gameboy on for days at a time at full brightness with a static screen, you’re gonna be fine – as you have pointed out.

Also – I’ve just played through Battletoads/Double Dragon with the settings of:
Brightness: 1, colour: 2, pixel: 4, FRM: ON
And it looked soooo damn crisp!
