  1. Larry from folsom have a 1956 Mercury 40 up needs restoring came off a astro craft 14 ft beautiful boat in the process of restoring if the motor is not locked up barn keep for 40 years have the original controlled don't have the money needed now but will soon let's talk thanks

  2. You don't need to destroy the the shift bushing when you take it out by tapping it. I use a 2' long 5/16" metal rod ground down to a point on one end and hammer it out from the other side. I always reuse mine. Have never replaced one in my life. A long as you change the rubber O ring you're good to go.

  3. I seen an oil slick behind my '54 5.5 Johnson. I took the power head off and dropped the LU and noticed LU oil in the impeller housing and the LU was full of water. I ordered the seal for the drive shaft, so hopefully that's my problem. Good detailed instructions, Thanks.
