I do believe the LL is just the Japanese version of the XL, the smaller model is just called New Nintendo 3DS

My opinion is that pirating is fair game on 3DS now that Nintendo took away our ability to purchase these games. I still have my physical collection but modded my 2DS XL as well…also purchased a second new 2DS XL as a backup once I saw those were being discontinued so it’s staying in the box until I need it. The 3DS is one of my favorite systems, so modding is keeping the ecosystem alive and well and I’m grateful for that.

Getting a used 3ds LL from Ebay and modding it yourself super easy. There's a guide as well as videos that show how to do it super easy. Did my own new 3ds XL and was able to homebrew it in under half an hour. Modders giving a second life to a beloved handheld once more.
Just modded my 2DS on v11.17 blah blah 50U. I'm pretty sure that is the final update for the system. Anton Retro has a guide but look at the comments.

The LL model in Japan is the XL model in the US. In Japan means large large, you just have a new 3ds japan import

Honestly having a dsixl and Wii back then, my family and I were confused by marketing for 3ds and WiiU so never bought into them. Now I got a modded 3ds and I’m catching up on everything I missed

As much as I loved the 3DS, my system goes completely unused these days due to me focusing on switch and pc games now. I definitely did play a ton of 3DS games back then and will always appreciate it. But sadly my time is not spend on the 3DS anymore so my system is wasting away.
The download speed is lower on non New 3DS/2DS models. So patience is needed for sure.
Remember when the Switch came out and Nintendo said they weren't going to stop producing and supporting the 3Ds? Then several months later they announced they were stopping production and support of it.

Someone should tell rgt that the app that allows you to play your ds games backups natively off the sd card is in the universal updater app 🙂

I have 2 2DS, a 3DS, a New 3DS XL, and a New 2DS XL. I kinda love the New 2DS the best. It’s just the right size for my hands. The 3DS is close but it has sharper edges and the screen feels small now. I should maybe look for grips for it. All I modded except for one 2DS
Wish there was a shop for nds games on 3ds too cuz 3ds doesn't really have a huge library of games
