i heard the waiting time was implemented because of dickheads unlocking the bootloader to spike devices with malware that made them money and sell them on to unsuspecting customers who are now being spied on. Can't verify if that's actually a thing. But there actually were cases were people gave spiked phones to their ex-partners to be able to spy on them. With the wait time, this would become more difficult to hide.
so firmware has spyware now too how big is the rom i wonder.
must be all about thoose jabs :)) its working – since then they go nuts on many companies :)) .. wanna get a booster :)) ?? come on, you get a burger and a coke for free :==)))
I use to think that Lenovo was a great company too, but right now, to be honest I'm just so upset with how EVIL they've become, so much so that I decided to stick with the Lenovo laptop that I had gotten back in 2018. At least I could install Arch Linux in that machine. I feel your pain, men.
how do they plan on stopping me selling my phone? Also I felt attacked when you mentioned ArchLinux, not cool.
I'm currently using a Motorola phone with CalyxOS, and unlocking the bootloader was far easier than on my previous Xiaomi phone, where you literally have to willingly send your location, SIM data, IP, and a lot more to Xiaomi and then use a proprietary windows-only application to click unlock, then wait 14 DAYS and use the app again. Only then could I root it and debloat it, but even then there still are trackers built into required system components.
I think im falling in love with Louis. Keep fighting brother!!
Dark times we live in, I spent like 2 years trying to find a device that would allow bootloader unlocking but apparently no one does it anymore 🙁
I'm surprised you would even give Motorola any time of your day at all. They have a reputation of being horribly anti-diy to the degree that they will even buy their old tech off of the used market so that they can destroy it themselves.
I own a lenovo product named "motorola edge 20", and it's a piece of trash. Do not recommend.
Freaking terrible. It would be like Ford Motor Company saying you must use Shell fuel and any other fuel voids the warranty.
I must say I'm very happy with our Motorola phones. Everyone in the family has Motorola, even my work phone is.
It's a shame they lower themselves to this garbage degree.
XP service pack 2 was solid though
Xiaomi's wait time is two weeks. Open source really fell off
Keep up the loud truth, they need it
Damnit… I was planning to buy a Lenovo laptop.
Mobile division is curated by China. ThinkPads by USA. So this is the result
Gotta love a good Louis rant
The fact that android os development is done on top Ubuntu is what makes this video even funnier…
Peak Pandaland. Xiaomi is the same way.
I had been looking at getting a Lenovo laptop. But the recent Framework sale got me. Glad I didn't buy a Lenovo if this is the kinda shit they're pulling now.
i would be running a custom rom but i need the banking apps
i need to work for lenovo… this video improved my mood a lot
I also used to rate Lenovo, the state of the company makes me sad. I'm commenting from a 6 year old Lenovo Yoga 920, running Arch, which has been dropped on concrete when a taxi drove off with the trunk still open. It has needed repair only once, for a blown capacitor. I'm not holding my breath, but I really hope that someday they turn this state of affairs around.
Unlocking the bootloader should be the norm, not some bull. And the sompanies should be forced to provide alterantives. Getting sick of this bs.
in EU this is already illegal; therefore a legal agreement like this is totally nevermind since:
they can't void your warranty unless you physically open your phone and screw things.
and they can't void your right to sell your own stuff.
The same was with my Xiaomi 12. Had to wait a week to be able to unlock the bootloader. I regret it regardless, because not many good developers make good 3rd party lineage os or pixel experience just because of the hurdles that are needed to develop
I f**king love this channel ❤
Oh and you are usually late to the rage against company x by the way lol. I say this to point out to the people who don't get why you rant, that you don't really rant until you literally have stuck with it longer than most people would have. Galaxy S4/S5 was xda developers community freak out lol. Pixel 5 was for many (myself included) the last ANDROID. It made more sense to literally get an iphone than deal with an arbitrarily country locked modem (no 5g just cause!) and unlocking it was the first time i had ever seen apps not working on android because it was unlocked! Not even rooted. I remember trying to relock the bootloader after installing OFFICIAL software matched with an official modem firmware but for a different region!
The phone is literally a brick now
Louis I think you are missing the very alarming probable point behind this. This does not make sense from a business standpoint at all. This seems way more likely to be for surveillance purposes and for discouraging tech people selling secure phones to the people that are of actual interest to whoever is behind this. The part about NEEDING AN INTERNET CONNECTION to allow it to be unlocked seems to me to be a fingerprinting attempt. Keep in mind that people that bother "them" are not usually the most tech savvy, and the people that are, usually have the sense to avoid messing with "them".
I sincerely believe DMCA was a mistake.
Motorola and Lenovo are becoming bastards just like Apple. Their TOS are a load of garbage. On another note Lois if you ever lost access to YouTube do you have any other channels on platforms with your uploads?
use the Stagefright Vulnerability to basically root an unlock almost ANY android phone out there.
Well, it is a company founded in Beijing. Are you really surprised?
"What is the background of Lenovo company?
Company Background
Founded by Liu Chuanzhi and his colleagues, Lenovo began as a PC sales unit in 1984, when Liu was a researcher at the state-run Chinese Academy of Sciences…."
Sony used to pull similar nonsense. They would let you unlock the bootloader and then after you did that, they would inform you that the camera functions you bought the device for, were disabled. On Sony model D6603. I never bought another Sony.
Hey Louis, Im looking for a good laptop with good customer service when needed. Its for my personal software projects, not the heaviest stuff, but also not the lightest. I just want a decent performing laptop with a good keyboard, screen, battery life and build quality. And maybe not too heavy, max 2kg ish. Anything you can recommend? Its been so annoying trying to find a reliable laptop.
those companies become shit precisely because of their investors
