I love your videos Evan but you hurt my ears with your pronouncing of stroop waffle. But thanks for exposing the tourist traps. X
I usually go to tripadvisor
what's a tiktok uwu
The guy from the last couple you questioned has a rather bold choice for a moustache as a European 💀
Wow your video quality has gone NUCLEAR dude. Well done – filming, editing, music, pacing… on point.
Never in a month of Sundays would i ever consider using 'ShitShok' for any kind of advice, never mind travel/eateries.🙄
It's crazy to see Evan considering a small box of very yellow and weak Dutch "Belgian fries" as a steal. Yes, there's a bit of toppings and tourist trap area so the price will be jacked.
Just looking how those fries are flopping all over the place by the mildest of wrist movements, these very pale potato sticks look severely undercooked.
Have you ever been to Den Bosch and tried a “bossche bol” from Jan de Groot?
this is so well edited!!!
I can't remember having had a stroopwafel. I've asked my family and also they can't remember. Maybe stroopwafels induce memory loss?? Also the stroop are molasses. If you read up on those on Wikipedia you may change your mind about eating them. You may also notice that the line at the stroopwafel shop consistes of obvious tourists while at the fries most of the people are Dutch. No caps, no cowboy hats, no shorts, etc.
Tim Tok is weird, as someone from near Preston I know about the potato/parched peas (the latter is actually a Prestonian food) van now it’s impossible to get around anywhere near the Harris that it’s blown up there.
Great video evan! The production level is crazy this is like something I'd see on PBS as a kid
I will say I found Seven Dials through TikTok and that was very enjoyable and not crazy crowded funnily enough.
Luke?
Wee tip if you're going to trawl Reddit for options – don't refer to something as a "hidden gem". That's an instant red flag to a lot of Redditors to troll you. If it's a "hidden gem" then what makes you think that they will share that with you? They don't want to see their favourite place being overrun by waddlers. My top tip? Buy. A. Guidebook. Or. Use. Google. Research, research, research.
I’m a hardcore millennial, I get my trip research from Youtube vlogs and actual writing blogs… I haven’t got a single regret so far AND my trips are so efficient 😂
Can I ask a question about what Americans mean by cookie? I always thought it just refered to the large soft doughy biscuits that often have chocolate chips or raisins or smarties or some such. But I've seen some Americans refer to the mince pies that Ginny makes Harry in Half Blood Prince as cookies and here you're describing Stroopwaffles as cookies. Are cookies more than what I initially thought, then?
I don’t get how anyone can see a huge queue and not think "I ain't waiting in that!"
Yeah, I don’t do TikTok.
from the title i thought this was gonna be about people playing tiktoks out loud on public transport. was wondering how thats more expensive even if they are wankers
love this format!
You're accent is getting more and more British.
If a local food is served by someone in their 90's it's usually a good sign. By far the best moshi in Kyoto that I had were served by an old woman who clearly had been there as a passion.
Agree that keeping the TikTok/Instagram crowd in their own queues while those who know better go elsewhere is a good thing though.
Mad that I land back from Amsterdam last night and this is the first video I see on youtube
Also had one of these waffles and yes I was underwhelmed
As someone who can occasionally be heard inquiring as to what the hell "tick tock" is, I can confidently say I would never, barring an actual famine, wait in line for any food item. Least of all an overpriced snack food.
I just realized that you uploaded this video at midnight. I’m from Minnesota and it was like 6pm at the time of the upload which is midnight London time.
I can't believe you call a stroop waffle a cookie 😂😂
In the some places, businesses literally pay people to queue in the queue, to make it longer.
strope-vafel
Also, you can re-heat stroopwafels using steam from a hot drink.
More appropiate title should have been "How TikTok is ruining everything" after all its not just travel. Amsterdam Central is super overcrowded am on vacation in the Netherlands every couple years and have not been in Amsterdam in almost 20 years now.
Very much the same is true for London. Zone 1 is fine for your fist time, next vacation in London will be my fifth and now got my place to stay in Zone 3 and need to start plunging down the actual locals rabbit hole. Any recommendations for London subreddits?
You're visiting Amsterdam, which is tourist-centric. If you want a real Dutch experience, get out and about in the Netherlands anyway.
We went to Amsterdam for 4 days in 1996. I dont know why we didnt get real amsterdam food.
We had chinese and hasgen dazs one night. I cant recall what else we had. I believe the hotel gave us breakfast.
When we go out, we look for mom and pop places. We dont usually go to expensive restaurants or wait in long lines.
I never used tik tok.
The belgian fries place is probably glad to have business and dont want to be greedy on price.
it's stroop not strope
Do as the locals do and get your “patatje met” at a “cafetaria” or snackbar. Way cheaper. Most locals buy their daily stroopwafels at the supermarket.
My brother used to travel a lot all around the world, he had one simple rule when it came to food: Always eat there where the locals go.
No way I just went to Amsterdam a couple of days ago 😂😂😂 although we missed all the places in the video
If you think that's bad, you don't wand to see what TikTok has done to Blue Waffle 😮😂
Netherlands mentioned
Stroopwafels are a poor snack choice when faded, as the combination of sugars in them will bring you down and HARD. Steer clear of sugar and caffeine if you like your mellow.
Particularly on indica's, I favour cheesey snacks, potato snacks, or the king of them all : KAPSALON ["cop-saw-lonn"] . It's the Dutch version of a kebab after a night at the pub. Fries topped with meat topped with cheese, it is UTTER satisfaction and the leading cause of sex noises on the street after dark. 🤤🤤🤤
The first mistake was to take ANY advise from TikTok
EVAN WTAF are you doing… that driving sequence is ILLEGAL in this country. YES even handsfree.
The point of the law is to stop you doing things while riding your bike, that take your attention off traffic!!
The effort that went into this video did not go unnoticed. Respect.
I feel cringy around touristy-hype places, but… those fries looked great! I have to admit that many places deserve the hype, so I should not rush to judgement. But I confess I seek out the less popular places! I'm an introvert what can I say 🤷♂😂
Damn I wonder what places in Belfast are labelled this way. Anyway the best places to go for authentic Northern Irish food are any traditional chipies which you'll find in a kinda run down area with little gentrification or in the suburbs or a small not tourist village. Basically for traditional Northern Irish anything go to the less touristy places. So if it calls itself out for being traditional unless its like the only pub in a village (Like the one in Strangford) its likely a tourist trap. However we have very little compared to down south as well who comes to Northern Ireland its usually people visiting Ireland who visit a few places up here not usually the other way around unless they have family which would anyway act as a guide.
Evan genuinely reads as British to me, he has the bluntness, the attitude, and mannerisms of a Londoner 😂 I say as a Londoner
I am loving your filming style lately. This one especially!! Felt like a segment on PBS or Discovery. Great content as always!
before Tiktok it was Instagram that made some places so popular that they became overrun and ruind by tourists – like for example Hallstatt – a nice, small town in a region with many more equally nice small towns that could do with some more tourists
Now I want Stroop Waffels…wheres the best place to find them in the UK? I've only ever seen them in Tesco and Starbucks….
