I had a friend that worked for Safeway stores. About 1969. He would take punch cards from one building to another computer in another building. He said it would be a lifetime job. After all, how would the other computer get all of that info? Really! He really thought that. When I pointed out they could put two computers in the same building and feed the cards automatically I think I broke his heart. Hey, it was 1969. Just what in Hell did any ordinary slobs like us know about computers. Good guy. I knew him all of my life. Before he passed last year, we would have a big laugh about his days (and lifetime job) at the Safeway computer systems. He only worked there for about 6 months.
