I’ve got Matchbox Moving Parts 2024 Mix 1, and outside of new stuff, there is new packaging to check out. The much-maligned (and deserved) old packaging had finally been put to rest, and Matchbox is now introducing a new environmentally-friendly plastic-free packaging. It looks good, it…

  1. Scientists discovered a new bacteria they call Ideonella sakaiensis. In 2001, a group of Japanese scientists made a startling discovery at a rubbish dump. In trenches packed with dirt and waste, they found a slimy film of bacteria that had been happily chewing through plastic bottles, toys and other bric-a-brac. As they broke down the trash, the bacteria harvested the carbon in the plastic for energy, which they used to grow, move and divide into even more plastic-hungry bacteria. Even if not in quite the hand-to-mouth-to-stomach way we normally understand it, the bacteria were eating the plastic.

  2. It doesn't matter what kind of package it comes in if the stores don't ever get any of the product. I go diecast hunting every morning and haven't seen any matchbox moving parts or mainline stuff in 4 months. I gave up on them.

  3. Not good not good all the dirt and dust is gonna get in there. We'll have to spend extra money on our own. Proper packaging to keep it new and valuable.
It's only gonna take seconds to rip the front cardboard back and start the drama.

  4. I understand the need for lowering the usage of plastic materials for environmental reasons and its good from the standpoint where you will open the packaging and play with the car, but from the standpoint of a collector who wants to keep the car in the original packaging, its not good. The plastic blister works like a "time capsule" and now those collectors will be forced to buy PLASTIC protectors for the cars they want to preserve and maybe pass to their children. Some will say, most of the people will open the package and throw away the packaging, but than I can argue that you don't need so much paper for the card and so much paint and chemicals for the picture of the vehicle on the card. Knowing how some people behave in the stores, lot of the cars will be scratched.

  5. If Mattel really interested in reducing plastic, they should reduce the mass production of models they are churning out that are made mostly from plastic. The new packaging is not much better as half the model is exposed & the other half is hidden. I prefer packaging that shows the whole model and is completely sealed.

  6. I don't like the exposed window, too tempting for a thief to be able to see and touch the bare car… Their packaging always sucks, the orange is such an eye sore, although that new packaging looks slighty more reddish, but it's still way too bright. Matcbox packaging should either be black, grey, or white

  7. Not a fan of the packaging with the exposed car. I am worried that with folks walking around with drinks in their hand and dirty hands, the exposed part of the car may take a hit.

  8. Maybe the word Compostable should have been Biodegradable
    But
Why not just have a fully enclosed box without the foam like holder
and have a perforated card to tear off the top to leave the box separate
if you want to store the car it in as they did when they first came out on 9 /July / 1953.
    Or
If you want to go fancy
Store the car in the box alone
    No Plastics or Packaging
then undo the box to make a card or stand
    for the car.
Most of the Matchbox Cars in Australia
    come in Cardboard Boxes anyway
so just work out a card or unfold a card from the box.
    Nothing but Cardboard.
Look at the first Matchbox Cars when they were released and keep it simple.
The big question would be the Supermarkets Plastic Wrapping and Packaging.
How would you display meat without the plastic wrapping.
    That’s the big question?

  9. I see no issue with the packaging. Looks more modern, they’ve responded to people’s aesthetic concerns and there are still idiots whining in the comments. And no, you can’t steal from these without tearing the packaging, which was the case before. Less plastic is always good.

  10. I personaly don't like other people/kids touching cars that I will later buy…and its so easier for car to get damaged (someone will put it in shopping cart, the car will get damaged, later they will change their mind and put it back in the shelves)…I support actions that benefit out enviroment, but they can at least close the car inside with something non plastic… this is absurdly bad

  11. As for a collector they need to put some kind of see through plastic on the part that the car is open…just to protect it…from time…I dont understand why you are even talking about stealing that makes no sense to me…

  12. Not keen on either packaging plus I worry about the internal bit deteriating while in the box during prolonged storage or display especially if there's any heat and or moisture like in somebody's attic!
