Only keeping the video editing app and edit videos, wont stress the ram right, i donot do multitasking, i only do one work at a time, it would be enough for me
it's the perfect laptop for students imo. it's what they call an ol reliable. it can do anything you realistically need on a day-to-day basis and it lasts the entire day. the refurbished deals are killer too you just get so much for what you pay. if you end up selling it, you can still get a decent deal because macs hold value compared to other laptops, especially the m-series macs.
Can this device handle my daily tasks efficiently? I’m currently using a 3-year-old Surface Laptop with an i5 chip running on Windows 11, but it’s struggling to keep up with my workload. My daily tasks involve extensive use of Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and Teams). I also work on video and audio transcription and editing, creative designing on Canva and managing websites on WordPress. I’m not looking for the latest Mac, but I do need a device that can perform better than my current Surface, especially when multitasking, as the frequent freezing and slowdowns are becoming unmanageable. The Surface gets pretty hot very quickly, too.
Made me smile seeing my M1 Air that i still use while studying python has yet to let me down and here we are in 2024 Andres that's why you are one of the best tech YouTubers telling the truth instead of trying to kill students budgets good stuff as always brother!
I have macbook air m2 base model for djing and video editing my dj sets. Im running 3 programs at the same time (traktor, ableton and bitwig) and the m2 uses just 6gb of ram. I also edit my 1 hour dj set in 1080p in 60 fps in 19 min without problem.

For me m1 air is a little bit high price than i expected. I mean it has beautiful feeling and power efficiency, but thats a 6 years opd laptop (i have air 2018, literally same laptop with trash cpu).
Anyway i needed to have windows on my laptop, so i bought xiaomi redmibook 2024. Great laptop with great specs for studying and coding(bought it for these purposes)

20 GB of swap usage is crazy
I am running a base model m1 MacBook Pro for my music producing and it does awesome. No reason to get rid of it unless I got for an M1 Pro with 16gb ram.

One thing you didn't mention is that when you go into swap it will write and read constantly from the SSD. The SSD has a limited amount of write cycles when that limit is reached the laptop is bricked and since the SSD is soldered on you can't just replace it. In order to replace those you will need to have a "donor" macbook SSD, which is not cheap and has used limit as well.
I have a MBA M2 with 8 Ram and never reaches 7gb of ram, mostly of the time is about 5-6. My workflow is a normal one, so at this time (1 year old), I don't regret it. In the future, who knows.
