The Labour Party isn’t left wing, they may have been years ago, but the current lot running it are right of centre. And whilst (I can say truly joyful) the conservatives have collapsed the even nuttier right wing party reform has surged. The corruption of the current government is what’s putting Labour in power and the vote for change is all right wing as sadly there isn’t a mainstream truly leftist offering in the Uk. It’s all kind of depressing and just hoping for marginal gains and there’s enough of the old left still in the new Labour government to drag the party back towards its roots and implement some policies that bring genuine improvement but I fear it will just be more of the same policies with slightly less corruption.

Which just makes the joke that much funnier because France has a history of the far-right always reaching the second vote ( basically we vote 1 time to decide the two biggest candidates and then we vote another time to choose between the two), but ultimately people vote against the far-right and not for the other candidate (lesser evil). This was ESPECIALLY true for Macron's second election because as soon as he was elected there was a popularity poll and he got a 42%. Which is fucking insane if you think about it because that implies that most people don't like him yet he was still elected.
