Makita BL4040F Battery Testing & Teardown Notes
40V packs store serious energy. Test externally first: voltage under load, charge behavior, and error blinks—opening is last.
External tests
- Charge on an official charger; note fault LEDs.
- Measure resting voltage.
- Compare runtime against a known-good pack on the same tool.
- Look for swelling or sweet electrolyte smell—recycle if present.
Safety notes
Do not crush, short, or oven “recondition” Li-ion packs. Recycle damaged packs at a proper facility.
