  1. Many modern cars from legacy manufacturers design reparability into the product. Volume vehicles used in fleets are scrutinized for potential cost of repair. The good manufacturers design using modularity to standardize and predict costs. A BMW 3 series for example has a front-end clip and wiring harness that makes it easy to source the base module (not a single part) for quicker and easier replacement due to an accident.

  2. 7:45 is incorrect. There is still all the fluids as in ICE except engine oil. There is even a belt in the steering drive unit🤔. When engine oil runs out in ICE, it is an emergency. In EV, when coolant runs out it is a double emergency. With no engine oil, you can still drive to safety. With no coolant lots of failure could happen in a short amount of time, HV batteries losing their cycle life, liquid cooled electronics failing everywhere etc.
You pay thrice as much in tire replacements compared to regular brake service. In Tesla the service intervals can be stretched a bit out of warranty (50K miles). Any issue thereafter is buyers gamble. Also battery warranty has restrictions, apart from replacement only with a refurbished battery with similar used condition. That said, you can do preventive self service for most part. It is those that are ignorant and fall for "no need for maintenance" run into issues and a big service bill.😂

  3. I was once rear ended a couple years ago in my 2016 Cadillac ELR, with a 5 inch gash in the bumper. That was 8k to repair. Luckily it was the others guys fault and his insurance paid for it. So far my 2016 Model X hasn't been in an accident and as far as maintenance, we had to pay for a car battery replacement, around $100 and tires because of wear and tear and we ran over something from a truck going to Lake Tahoe. I guess we are one of the lucky ones that hasn't had any real problems outside the norm. The service factory did suggest we spend $2500 to replace our center console computer. We will most likely do that when we pay the car off in a couple months, since the console will be the latest current version…

  4. Been voicing my concerns about repair cost for quite sometime. Do you know how much Tesla charges for a replacement front headlight assemby on a pre highland model 3 cost? $2000+ Cad, just for 1 headlight assembly, $4000 CAD if your unlucky and have both die on you after warranty. SMH Tesla, they gotta build their cars to be easily and cheaply repaired. PTC heater $1500 CAD, absolutely crazy repair cost.

  5. You seem confused. Nothing that is considered regular maintenance would ever be covered by a warranty. Also, I don’t think there is a single ICE car that calls for oil changes at 3,000 miles. It’s usually at least 10,000 miles or once a year.

  6. What are you talking about?? Teslas don’t have more sensors than comparable ICE cars – in fact, they have significantly fewer sensors in most cases, since they no longer have ultrasonic sensors like most other cars, just plain old video cameras. I don’t know why Teslas cost so much more to repair after an accident, but blaming it on “sensors” is absurd.

  7. Yeah. Where I live there used to be only 2 shops that would work on Tesla's. The owner of one openly admitted he marks up the cost on EV's because he has no competition. Although, he worded it differently. Since then more shops have started working on them and prices have come down but there still seems to be a premium for EV repairs.

  8. And that’s my biggest fear, affording one is hard enough without not being able to repair it if it does go wrong. Even with high costs it puts up insurance. Tell Elon he needs to invest the repair box, you drive in and the car is scanned and fixed.
