  1. I've always been interested in trying these games, I have the Mega CD version but never got far due to the language barrier. I love the old anime art style in the series.

No quality of life improvements and lack of quick save is kind of a deal breaker for me though at $50. I know I'm going to regret passing on the physical release, but I'm not sure i'd have the patience for the difficulty these days.

  2. I loved the 2nd game in the series. I had a turbografx 16 cd console and that game was great. So when Limited Run Games out up a collectors edition of this set for the Switch i preordered it immediately!

  3. What a rollercoaster. Been waiting for the first game in English since 1992. I could easily forgive the lack of upgrades or QOL features, not being on Steam, and even an outrageous price, just to finally play this old game. But the brokenness cannot be overlooked as that hampers the entire experience. I can only hope that the publisher or some benevolent modder finds it in their heart to fix it up.

  4. I’ll be skipping these, as finally after nearly 4 years of living here my Japanese is good enough to play games without having to look up almost everything. It’s the wall of hiragana that gets me paired with Kansai-ben with jijichan inflections that always threw me off in games. Really excited to dive into these on my pc engine (got the sd system 3).

  5. One thing you didn't specify in the video. Is the Switch version censored compared to the original JP version, like the Working Designs US version from 1992?
That's very much a deal breaker for me.

  6. Awesome video! It's so nice to see some new CF content! ❤️

Btw, I've played the japanese collection that came out last year, and the extra voices you were talking about at 17:33 are missing there as well. I wonder why they removed them… 🤔

  7. WAIT, WHAT? I just learned this from your video. I own the actual TG-16 CD CF2. I played it through dozens of times. It's a favorite of mine. WOW….downloading now. Thank you!!! I have the other series in ISO form that I have been holding onto since 2007 hoping for a patch to come out.

  8. Thanks for the review. I was curious, but not curious enough to buy it. Like you, I think I'd rather have the later games. Does CF2 still have the audio sequence with a black screen where they're being smuggled in a crate or something and one of the cats farts? That always amused me.

  9. Always good to see something like this be released but price, poor translation and a mix up with the battle system, It's a no for me. However it would be good if you updated us all if the errors are fix. 😁

  10. I wished that Edia had added some additional features used in Sega CD/Mega CD version Cosmic Fantasy Stories (1992) as well as adding better quality cutsenses featured in Cosmic Fantasy Visual Collection (1993) specially for the first game. Also I hope that Edia will make Cosmic Fantasy Collection 1 and 2 available on other gaming platforms like the PC in the future.

  11. Awesome review. It's a shame the price will probably kill any chance this already niche collection has. I'm going to pick it up whenever it goes on a deep discount. How do you charge that much with no QoL features and that Engrish?

  12. Love your work as usual! What a great series, good to see it resurface on such a popular console and with an english translation to boot! This is how I felt a few years back when trials of mana finally released in the west. There are still more that need this treatment too. If this were 30 years ago 10 year old me would be beside himself with glee.. oh well, at least we got em when we're 40 😭

  13. I hope to be able to get it soon (Money is much tighter then usual this month.) I played the second game at a friend's house when I was a kid but if memory serves I either got a bad ending or the ending was a sad one.

  14. I threw down for the Limited Run Games physical pre-order. I figured $45 is normal for a collection cart like this and it'd be cool to own the whole series if they do a volume 2. I didn't realize the digital was $50! I'm fairly certain there won't be a volume 2 now. The outcome is obvious. It won't sell at that price and the company will assume nobody's interested. Tale as old as time.

  15. From what I’ve played I LOVE these games. I own a hard copy of 2 and I appreciate the more faithful presentation of the original Japanese game. (I did like the Working Designs version though)Honestly I wouldn’t have even noticed the battle errors in CF 1 if you hadn’t mentioned it. I really like the straightforward style of these games, music, j pop, voice acting and character designs. 99/10 !

  16. This is really helpful as I recently purchased both Japanese collections and have been reluctant to take them on (I can speak but my reading is trash). Knowing I have to grind I’ll take a shot.

  17. I'd say wait to see if this inspires someone to translate the whole series for emulation, as only the second game is translated. The Nintendo version will likely be censored, Working Design's notorious translation, no new features and that cost. That's ridiculous.

  18. Also 50 bucks for roughly 30 hours of game? I paid under 20 for Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous EE with some of the DLC and its uhh.. 150-200+ hours of game. Its too much game really.

  19. Any idea if the Japanese physical versions will play in English now that there is a release on the English e-shop? Sometimes JP copies allow for this if your Switch is set to USA region.

  20. I really hope someone can extract this translation at some point. I'd love to play this in English on real PCE hardware someday. I'd be willing to pay $50 each for English PCE CD releases.

  21. Maaan i sure hope they patch the first game. I'd be tempted to buy itfou the uber art style.

Watching this video made it seem like they really don't want anyone to buy these titles.

    Thanks for the show.
