Nobody Lives in Upstate New York, really?

“Wise”
New York City is one of the largest and most bustling cities in the world, but the rest of New York State, especially Upstate, is much quieter and sparsely populated. The region’s harsh winters, challenging terrain, and limited economic opportunities contrast sharply with the vibrant,…

I don't really consider western new york part of new York state. Feel like most people don't even know who the governer is. We are freer than NYS
I live near Buffalo, and i think i figured out how to grow bannanas without any coverings, no green house, right in the ground, not relocating. Doesn't work with citrus, just bananas, and yeah, no bananas in winter
All the coolest people live in upstate.
I wouldn't call 7.5 million people nobody.
At 0:49 seconds that's Indian Head. That's where I watched the total solar eclipse this year. Amazing spot!!
This video is summation of the Wikipedia article. Don't waste your time. its not wrong rather obvious and dull
theres plenty of people up here go home and stay there
nah we're chillin like it's not super populated but its not like the middle of know where i actually don't know if you should be yapping with out research no its not all ny city but like literally no where is only city that not how like anywhere works Albany is literally the most average place in America statistically it not like you go from ny city to alaska
MOVE TO PA… IT'S CHEAP!
Why are long Island, Westchester, Rockland, etc. included in NYC? Do your figures include these areas or just… NYC ?
Upstate is BOOMING. Property in the Catskills is equal to Westchester value. Even in the Dacks…
Um. Excuse me.
I live in what you call "upstate N.Y. "
Well, that is N.Y. State.
I live in what IS Upstate N.Y.
Which is the Rochester area.
Now you know.
That is all. 😐
Who is paying you to give such a bad review? Yeah, sure, there is plenty of room for improvement. The same is true in every other state and every other country on the planet once you get further away from the bigger cities. The capital region has large investments of technological companies and the world's first nanotech college. There is plenty of agriculture – on final approach to the airport for Albany you will see our capital city is surrounded by farms. Then you see suburban housing developments as you hear the landing gear lock into place over the University. Benjamin Franklin had a conference right here to put together a plan for all the colonies to unite as a union. That should be in all the history books. You should spend more time here and look for plenty to enjoy. We could always use more, but it is nowhere near as bad as you are suggesting.
Semiconductor manufacturing is really picking up speed in Upstate
Clickbait! I was born and raised in the southern tier of Central New York (near Ithaca) and still here 70 years later. You couldn't pay me to live in NYC.
NEW YORK IS RUN BY DEMOCRATS, TAXES ARE SO HIGH, AND THE STATE HAS A VERY ANTI BUSINESS ATMOSPHERE… EVERY CORPORATION HAS ALSO FLED THE STATE… THIS VIDEO IS BS, OTHER COLD STATES HAVE PLENTY OF PEOPLE..
title is clickbait bs, but good video
I live in the state of New York, PERIOD
NYS' ridiculously high taxes are also a major reason for not living there. Those born there, if they're wise and have the wherewithal and motivation, get the hell out. And you can't eat beautiful scenery, can you? And there is a whole lot of nothing, there, and, by that, no amenities, nothing interesting (once you've seen in one time), no culture, its people are stuck, intellectually stunted, generation after generation, in small towns and cities that started dying over 100 years ago. Whatever businesses there were have either died or are on their deathbeds. It's a vast and deeply depressing place. I should know. I was born and raised there and shall never return if there's anything I can do about it.
Notice the video notes the people from NYC moving "upstate" during COVID. Well, they already pay the insane taxes, so are simply buying much cheaper houses away from NYC. Why anyone would move to any part of NY is beyond me, but especially the parts above NYC. The only time I know of people moving to NYS from other states is because of their jobs, the few that may still require being in NYS.
So, as someone who grew up in the Southern Tier of NYS, between Binghamton and Ithaca (not far from the PA border), we "Upstate" New Yorkers are a bit offended by all of us being "Upstate", which is a definition seemingly created by NYC, where they think anything above Westchester County is "upstate", whereas people in my area and western NY would say upstate is about around Syracuse and northward….that's "upstate". It's like those in NYC don't understand actual geography.
Your premise is faulty. If Upstate NY has 7.5 million people, that would rank it as the 14th largest population state absent NYC. Meanwhile, it is only 27th largest in area. That's a whole lot of "Nobodies."
