I so badly miss my PlayStation 2! I got my hands on one about 6 months after release, brand new, with a nice bookshelf stereo for sound to go with my TV at home. I admit, lay away was a beautiful thing and I worked my butt off to make the payments and it was so very worth it. Firing up Metal Gear Solid 2 for the first time and playing had my mind blown.
Well, because it simply screws together there aren't any hidden tabs to release unlike the Xbox 360 fat. So the aren't that bad to take apart. Also, it's usually the C3 capacitor that goes bad on that particular power board.
I've managed to pop the same power caps on 4 separate fat PS2's all because of how finnicky the HDD slot is on it lol. The ps2 SUCKS to disassemble and it has some very SUCKY hardware quirks. Love the library and console but it's temperamental.
I actually still technically have my original PS2 slim, but it's in Finland, and I live in Canada 🙁

For amateurs wanting to do this, remember to discharge your capacitors after you have powered your system before doing any work on them.

That capacitor looks like it is probably carrying more than 120 volts lol

Thankfully there's nothing wrong with mine but I did take it apart just so i could mark where each screw goes with a posca pen.
