  1. I'm just glad to see she's getting the needed Renovations and Maintenance that she deserves. I can't believe that they leased her out without a stipulation in the contract that a percentage of her Annual income must go to her annual general maintenance and upkeep over the decades and verified. Afew years ago it sounded like she would get sold or scraped. Especially when all of her lifeboats were being destroyed. The Queen Mary served America and the World well so she deserves to be well taken care of in her aging years. I'm not a fan of California at all but at least they're doing this right.
I grew up there so I can talk.

  2. I haven't been inside the Queen Mary in about 40 years but I see the exterior frequently from the Carnival Cruise ships. I know that she was looking mighty drab I'm glad they're giving her some attention.

  3. My family and I had a wonderful stay on the QM in December 2019. You could see it needed a refresh, but the stay was wonderful and the food was delicious. So glad to see the QM coming back to life in a big way and cannot wait to get back!

  4. Thanks for the update. I stayed onboard the Queen Mary back in October 2023 and while walking around, I spoke to one of the people working on exterior restoration. I could tell he took great pride in his work. I took the engine room tour and the guide was quite enjoyable; he seemed happy to be there and to be able to pass on his knowledge of the ship. It looks like they have a good team working there; the future looks bright for the QM and I look forward to staying again in the future to see all the work they have done.

  5. Alex, thanks for keeping the Queen Mary on the front burner. The stories I could tell of all the places we would sneak around, all off the official tour of course — lol.

  6. I was born in Southampton (in 1940) and spent my childhood in a village 7 miles outside the city but even at that distance you could hear the fog horns of the Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mary.
I went down to Southampton when the SS United States arrived on her maiden voyage and she had won the Blue Riband. They had used rubbish paint on her hull as it had all been stripped off on the water-line.
