As someone who has repaired and rebuilt many computers myself, I recommend wearing an anti-static wrist strap to protect delicate integrated circuit chips like CPUs and memory from damage caused by static discharge.
Many people who throw away their old, slow computers don't realize that slow performance is usually due to a bloated operating system, often caused by too many installed applications and/or malware, not due to aging hardware. Performing a factory reset on these computers often gets them running like new.
