This session we repair an old 1940’s AirCastle radio. It was purchased at an auction for $40 and was in not working condition even though it had been recapped and worked on by someone. We straighten out the mess and get it working again!

  1. I recently found a 1939 Spiegel Air Castle model 4002, with chassis 1072AE. After watching your video and taking the precautions you mentioned, I was able to get this project working. Your teaching method was what gave me the confidence to take on this challenge. I ended up using about 25 feet of wire and I can get the AM working fine. It is also fun to watch the "magic eye" when tuning. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  2. You really shouldn't take the micky out of people's efforts to fix old radio's!! Everyone makes mistakes it's a learning curve you yourself have made many mistakes, the guy that attempted to repair this radio must be crest fallen and because of your comments may never try to fix another radio so what have you achieved by ridiculing his efforts?
HOWEVER I DO ENJOY YOUR VIDEOS.

  7. First of all, I am NOT an Electronics Tech but I have had an interest in Electronics since early Childhood. I made the "dumb butt" mistake of choosing Mortician as my Career Choice.

Without the resources to buy replacement Solid State Electronics Boards (whether affordable or available), would it NOT be easier and more economical to repair the Older Vacuum Tube type Radios?

I am sure there are Pros & Cons to both, the Tube type and Non-Tube types?

  8. I hope you are well and have a very happy year Ron. It's been a while so I've got some catching up of your videos to do… Nice radio, for its age not a bad sound after you put it right. Ps. I hope your cute kitty is well as well. 🙂
