  1. The reason this works is because a gameboy uses two lanes, one to send, one to receive, while a gba uses only 1 lane to send and receive, however, if you hook up more than two gbas the third and fourth gets put on a second and third lane, which uses the same pin as the receiving lane on a gameboy. The gba link cable essentially connects what would be the gameboy transmit lane to the other gameboy and the receiver lane to the hub. By hooking the cables up like this you are essentially taking a 2 lane signal, splitting it up into 2 1 lane signals, and combining them back into a two lane signal

  2. To provide slightly more detail on the pinned explanation:

The original game boy had an “in” pin and an “out” pin, which crossed over inside the cable, so both sides would transmit at the same time. There was a four player adapter, but it was a powered device that would talk to each gameboy individually and relay the messages (like a modern network switch).

The GameBoy advance instead used a different pin (unused on the original link cable) and all four GBAs take it in turns to send on that one pin. (the protocol runs faster, so it’s not a problem)

The reason the trick in the video works is that the way each GBA knew it was their turn used the same pins as the “in” and “out” on the original cable: “out” on the small end is connected to “in” on the big end, and “out” on the big end is connected to “out” in the middle. (Which would then be connected to “in” on the big end of the next cable when you plugged the small end of that cable into the middle socket) You’d know which “number” you were by how far down this chain of “out to in” you were from the original small end connected gba. And you know you’re that first gba because nothing ever comes in on your “in” pin.

Or in short, the gba cable also crosses over the “out” to “in”, from small end to big end, but not the reverse. The trick works by taking this half crossover and using 2 of them to get the same crossover of the original cable.

  3. So thats an SP not an Advanced. I feel bad for the Squirtle oringal owner! You got robbed! 😂 although I do like Ratacate. ❤😮❤ (im just joshing im sure the store owner of FuncoLand remake knows what systems they are.) 😂😂😂

  4. I've basically seen this happen at the pawn shop a thousand times. In one way or another. You have to be forward about the service you're selling otherwise you're only hurting yourself. (I do free work all the time for people, if it's no big deal and I'm on the clock and it's not busy, I don't mind at all. Especially if it falls into the hobby category.
