Back in 1995 Sega announced Project Neptune which was slated to be released that same year. Neptune was a new console that combined a Genesis and 32X into a single sleek package. But due to the impending…

  1. Hey everyone! One thing I failed to mention in the video was that the “modular” Neptune build that I did was largely developed by PCBAssembly99. He pioneered the use of a 3BP in conjunction with the Neptune mod and also the unique method of flipping over the 32X board while using the longer ribbon cables so that it can be used with the 90 degree cartridge connector. He also made a bill of material that you can reference which has all the items I used in my tutorial for the Neptune build, which is linked here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/tupgzrchjqbmw0l/BOM.zip/file

He also posted a build guide on GBATEMP linked here: https://gbatemp.net/blogs/blog/sega-neptune-building-a-sega-neptune.4931/details

Again, a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this project!

  2. I wanna make the SEGA Andromeda! (Milky Way is just too damned awkward a name and Galaxy is too generic so Saturn, Neptune… – now we go out of this world! or at least out of this galaxy!)

The post Dreamcast modern gen console! 😀

  3. 9:45 That is NOT how you remove THT components. And the SMD cap at C19 is too close to the via on another track. Might not be an issue here, but it will be on other boards.

Also, clean the pads and replace the solder completely. Don't reuse what was there, and don't mix the old solder with the new. AND USE SOME FLUX.

  4. This does look pretty cool. I am however left asking myself if it isn't just as easy to try and get a Mega Drive, the 32X, and the Mega CD and just build a tower but it's good to have options, I guess. Still, the video is great, and the build looks spectacular.

  5. So when you say in the title that YOU built this, what you really mean is that you assembled it based on the design and parts from two other people…
I guess it works out since you're giving credit, but I'd rather watch Dan's video on how he built this than borderline clickbait.

  6. I loved the neptune and thirty two x as a kid. However, I really believed that sega should have just pushed the sega c d as hard as it could go: 320x448i and using Shadow/Highlight Mode for 256 out of 3,375 colors, Redbook audio, and using the ASIC-DSP for 3D graphics and arcade superscalers. Using all of the memory and processing power, SEGA could've brought many AAA titles titles to the Sega CD and even convinced devs to bring their PS1 launch titles.

  7. This is great but at same time has some serious drawbacks: no Sega CD support, no Master System games. If Sega had released this console back in the day, certainly it wouldn't have had these issues.

  8. my problem with making a neptune is you lose the ability to run mastersystem games. it also breaks a few features with the everdrives. like i know that with the megaeverdrive you need the 32x removed to play sega cd right from the cart. Edit: well you mentioned one of the two lol

  9. Also worth mentioning along with the Sega CD, is that the Master System games running from the Everdrive Pro likely would not work on this. A very minor grievance but had to be said.

  10. Here is cool story on how I bought a working JVC X-Eye for just $5. In 2013 I found somebody on Craigslist selling a handful of NES games I called him about buying 4 of the games for $5 each. One of the games was Duck Tales that I wanted. I get in my car to head his direction to meet and he calls me back and says: "Oh, I'm sorry I just realized that it's actually Duck Tales 2 not Duck Tales 1 do you still want it??" I asked him "For the same price?" He said "Yes" and I said "Cool, yeah I still want it". At the time I also had a Craigslist post for games I want to sell and willing to buy games for any console I kept this post up updating it regularly. The day after I bought Duck Tales 2 I get a local video game dealer that wants to know what my rarest games are. I list them off with Duck Tales 2 being one of them. He wanted that game badly and I asked him what he's willing to trade? He offered me a JVC X-Eye with the Original JVC Controller for the game. I always wanted that console so I agree to the trade. This guy had a massive games store inside a local flea market. I brought the game to him and we made the trade. That's how I bought a JVC X-Eye for just $5! JVC X-Eye is an awesome console and I highly recommend it if you can find a working one for decent price. It's one of the sexiest looking consoles imo.
