  1. Some corrections:
-There were more top Japanese players that competed for a spot in Worlds than I was aware of; it may be that Phantom Thief specializes more in Turf War than other modes, but they did beat out the likes of Melon, Dynamon, and Norishio in the Koshien event. Having now seen Day 1, I'm impressed by Phantom Thief and think they'll put up a pretty good fight against any of the other qualifiers.
-Due to a translation error that caused confusion about the structure of the tournament, I share incorrect information about how the Korean qualifiers worked. The only event taking place in Tokyo is the World Championship itself. I'm told, though I have not confirmed myself, that the Korean Nintendo YouTube channel does have footage of both the regional and final qualifiers.
-The player being highlighted in Unadon's segment is actually Typhon. Puyo was known to play Dapples, which is probably why the mistake was made in the original video, but in the new version that was released at the same time my video was, they correct the name, graphics, and voiceover.

  2. A bit late, but the Australian qualifier is actually reuploaded on the Australian nintendo channel, but unlisted. You can still find it linked in the japanese world championship website somewhere

  4. I cant help but see this negatively because Nintendo has proven they hate the comp scenes of their games they don't host. It just proves Nintendo is so out of touch with how their game is actually respected/played by their own top players even in a tournament their hosting.

  5. Can I just say? Im now seeing the japanese version of the team introduction video for the first time, in the Worlds vod, and even tho its not even the Eng version, even tho we typically assume anything Japan does for Splatoon will be better than the American version, just one comment of jackpots gameplay in, and i’m like “Please. Just STOP talking. 😩”

  6. Melon and Norishio didn't sit out their qualifiers. Phantom Thief is a turf super team and since the japanese world qualifier was Koshien (turf only tourney) they managed to win. Curious how they'll do in all modes against Kaizer or Jackpot but the west can honestly win this 🙂

  7. I'm Korean, and I have watched all the way from the regional qualifiers to finals. And I NEED to correct some of the points mentioned in this video.

Regional tournaments were divided into central and southern regions, and 4 teams were picked in each, making a total of 8 teams that made to finals. And for the love of woomy, the finals were NOT held in Tokyo!! It was held in the Nintendo Live in Seoul. I know, bc I was there at the scene.

Also I could find the full recordings of regional and final tournaments in the official Korean Nintendo channel, but I don't blame anyone for this. The titles are in Korean, so it would be difficult for anyone to find it.

  8. As higher level aunz player I have scrimmed and played tournaments with and against nex and your observation is absolutely correct! Nex among the community is known as a “rat” as he is extremely talented at getting behind the opponent and taking positions that require time and resources to remove him from

  9. Honestly, it isn't that surprising that Nintendo forgot about the AUNZ match. We're often forgotten about by them.
But their qualifying match was sick. Give it a watch when if can.
    Go Greasy Goblins!

  10. The claims the narrator makes are good, like the splash wall being set up to help out Lin, but because Nintendo never really got footage that really supports their claims, it just feels like they're making stuff up

  11. You put too much faith in Nintendo in actually caring about actual top level competitive play. This company doesn't care about you or anyone else in this community

  12. Melon, chocopero, Naegora and other top Japanese players actually played in the Splatoon Koshien 2023, but got eliminated at pretty earlier stage. I think it might because Koshien in Japan only play turf wars and I know some of those players just don't like playing turf wars. This is pretty weird in Japan as you need to win a nation-wide turf war only tournament to advance into World championship but the World championship tournament uses Anarchy rules.

  13. this explains why pencil hasnt been nerfed in the slightest, the devs are watching clips from 6 months ago "oh so ballpoint is still broken, better nerf its accuracy"
