“Buy it Fix it”
In this video we’re going to be looking at a set of Stihl Bluetooth Ear Protectors. Someone brought these into our local ‘Repair Cafe’ where I volunteer helping to repair local people’s items. Initially it was just thought they needed a new battery but this turned out to be a bit of a nightmare…

Yep cold coffee standard for such an enjoyable vid thank you for making the effort to do all that work Steve Bristol ๐๐
Genius Mick, fair play to you, seriously. I'm blown away..
Thank u for another thrill biting video, I really enjoyed it, so amazing what u can do, I loved it and thank u for letting us know what tools you are using, It is really a great help for me especially when it comes to flux. Have a great time until the new video. See ya! Cecil from Cape Town out.
Wish you were in the USA ๐บ๐ธ as i have a switch mode power supply that is giving me fits it doesn't want to work i guess im going to have to replace the entire components on board
Great video, surprised how many components failed! btw what eprom programmer and adapter are you using?
This gadget turned out to be "Beyond Economical Repair", but you repaired it anyways ๐ Well done!
great video, almost everithing replaced
really nightmare it was mate. All the best.Peter.
"One moment please…" Just like Big Clive puts it ๐
Are they driving the chips directly with battery voltage? Seems like a weird thing to do. Works until there's something wrong with the voltage, then the magic smoke comes out of every IC on the board. I'd have no problem doing that with a ultra low power consumption / diy device, but on a commercial product with automatic manufacturing that's a bit of weird thing to do. Maybe they stole parts of the old 2x AA driven circuit?! Someone mentioned that the old version of the device was 2x AA powered.
I've never heard of Stihl Bluetooth Ear Protectors before what is the purpose of the Bluetooth for ๐ค
Nice repair, but confused, did the reverse voltage diode at the incoming supply turn out to not to be reverse input protection? Failed miserably at the only job it had to ๐ฎ enjoy your vids ๐
and this is why old ones were better that had on AA batteries
As a former stihl service mechanic i have seen a couple of these with the most peculiar faults (most common being the ruber of the power button giving out which is easy fixed with a biro/ballpen spring) besides that they have strange faults witht he boards where suddenly one side stops working etc. my opinion dont buy these and get the black version instead (with intergrated mic etc)
HI Nice work! the person must be a VERY GOOD friend!๐
How the heck are you getting chips "the following day"?! Lol, I have to wait a week from Digikey, then forget where I was in the project!
Great job, bravo! Regards.
Another outstanding job. That's going above and beyond.
It reminds me of Triggers broom in Only Fools and Horses, "Maintained it for 20 years. This old brooms had 17 new heads and 14 new handles in its time"… ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
It's the same headset, it's just had a new battery, a charging control chip, a new Bluetooth module, with the transferred flash chip, oh and two new audio chips…๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
It's why I hate USB to bayonet cables, 'cos a lot of people think, well it's the same shape and it fits so it must be the correct charger for that…!!BANG!!!
If it's USB then stick a USB micro or a USC C connector in the device, then the user can use any cable they have lying around.
Damn, the Murphy's law was in full effect with this one, excellent job as always!
Great fix, perseverance often pays off ๐๐ผ
Fair play to ya, great patience that paid off great job..๐๐
Amazing patience and another gadget saved from landfill.
Here we go again my coffee is going to get cold again because of another great vid ๐
Nice one Mick, you have far more patience than i do!
I like you because you share what you do, it's useful to me, hope it will be useful to those who need it, please make videos because it will be very good for people who understand mechanical engineering.
Great job again.. Any luck with the toy I sent you yet ?
nice video as always
