  1. Oh man, I can't imagine not repairing. I have the thigh rub and am always repairing pants. I also work in the field, so all the extra hiking around wears them out faster plus catching briars and whatnot. Love this message. 💚

  2. The primary thing I’ve sewn as a repair is to sew buttons back on that come loose. Since I never button the top button on shirts or blouses I have been known to cut that top button off & repurpose it by replace the missing one. My mother had 2 boys & 2 girls who all learned to plan/shop/cook meals & do basic sewing on her simple 1960s Singer sewing machine. She started with how to sew patches on your jeans, buttons on shirts, use a seam ripper. Everyone should learn, ask your library to sponsor a monthly sewing day to help people learn.

I think the last “sewing project” I had was I found one of those canvas/ mesh shoe pockets things you hang on a closet door. It had a really wide seam, so I located a seam ripper & opened enough to slide in several ceramic magnets the size of a domino up into the seam until there were magnets across it so it was strong enough to hang on the inside of my camper van’s back metal door. That where I keep small/ light items like cloth dish towels, reusable coffee filters, my collapsible cone to make pour over coffee, and empty bags for shopping.

  3. I've repaired holes in some sweaters and patched jeans, along with dyeing a shirt because it had a big stain I couldn't remove.
My next project is stitching the pockets back on to an old leather coat. The leather and lining are in good shape, but the pockets just… disintegrated. Hopefully I can help the coat last many more years with some new pockets.

  4. Wow, thats awesome! Ever since I learned about the crippling amount of fabric waste thrown away, a favorite pasttime is to thrift clothes and sew them! (Which has led to various clothing piles because I think "this is a cute xxxxl top I can make it fit") My bony body doesnt "fill out" most clothes so Ive gotten accustomed to taking things in, sewing darts, and cutting extra fabric-
Some of my favorite alterations have been uncuffing pants so theyre long enough, sewing extra bandanas on a pair of black pants I wasnt wearing/outgrew, finding a pair of rolled up cotton booty shorts that I unrolled/took in at the thighs, and many more! As tedious as it is (sewing is too much measuring-) my quality clothes have lasted me the longest and have fit me better! Meanwhile some clothes from old navy are flimsy and falling apart lol
