“History in the Dark”
USS Pennsylvania was an American battleship that was commissioned in 1916, and she was the older and only sister of the USS Arizona. When Arizona was destroyed at Pearl Harbor, Pennsylvania was spared and bravely fought in many battles during World War II. Also, she was a bit clumsy.

Post upload note: Due to myself being apparently blind and a lying liar of a source I used, I should clarify that the photo at the end of the video of "Pennsylvania's" state after the nuclear test was not her. It was of Nevada. Pennsylvania was likely in a very similar state, but I just wanted to note this error on my part.
“How many guns do you want us to install?”
Yes.
“How much ammunition?”
All of it.
Hey! She tried her best ok?
My Dad severed on board the Pennsy from Dec 8th 1941 until the end. He did not mention a lot of things mentioned in this video. He did talk about the torpedo attack. He lost three friends who where in the hold where the torpedo struck playing checkers . He was planning on joining them but stopped to have another cup of coffee. The first time a cup of coffee saved his life.
I wish USS Pennsylvania was kept instead of being used as a Nuclear Testing Ship. It would be cool to see it docked in Philadelphia Right Across from the USS New Jersey. 😢😢
West Virginia got her hull ripped up by many torpedo hits. She would have capsized like the Oklahoma except for the actions of a lieutenant who had command that Sunday. He ordered counterflooding making her sink upright. Modernized and rebuilt she blasted the Japanese battleship Yamashiro with her 14 inch guns.
Fleet tactics now has a better resupply plans . Than just back and forth to port . Kind of like supply for Getman wolf packs of ww2
Shore bombardment is vital it clears obstacles for the Marines
Later it knocks out pill boxs.
So yes they use lots of ammo
The ability of the USNavy to supply its ships and Marines with logistics and supplies during WW2 was an incredible feat.
Pensy did have one advantage during Pearl Harbor…she was ALREADY in drydock, she got out by Jan 2nd. The crane driver over the dock actually tried to wave his boom at attacking Japanese aircraft.
I am a big consumer of all things Pennsy, especially photographs from the '44 to '45 era. My grandfather was serving as her Executive Officer. I scrutinize every photo I see for all of the khaki officers.
Its crazy how seldom battleships actually battle other ships
I bet those brave Marines really appreciated all those 14" guns, one radio call and Pennsylvania would blast things until there was only craters left
The image of USS California 23:38 is a pre-war photo. At the time of this battle she had been rebuilt, and looked like Tennessee.
Great story about crane operator next to Pennsylvania using crane to help direct aa fire and hit planes
