  2. you actually don’t get more dynamic range filming in log. that’s a misunderstanding and myth that’s been spreading. the sensor always has the same dynamic range. filming in log does in some very specific circumstances use that dynamic range in a slightly better way, but then again in other circumstances it uses it in a worse way. the rule of thumb should be to never film in log, because it is never needed. unless your whole grading workflow is adapted to log footage, you can just film in standard. all the information is there, all the dynamic range. you can get the exact same results as log, just a different path there

  3. dood, you are funny, and your rants are fun, BUT you are wrong about open gate, For sure you are right about how some dumbass advertising producers use open gate material; but when you are shooting for film or broadcast you do need to have the extra space for overscan and carrier signal issues. On the artistic side you also need to be able to crop out lighting/stage/backdrop and audio gear that stick in the shot. This among a lot of other creative vfx reasons. Sure, open gate is useless for YouTube, and most basic video situations, but for professional work it is a great and pretty necessary. a great example is to deal with aspect ratio issues in theaters–If you are an independent filmmaker showing in various film festivals, that have all kinds of weird limitations/requirements etc. so being able to access all the 3:2 space, versus the ATSC 16:4 versus the scope 2:1 is really great… also I just want to say "monkey desert biatch" is now my favoritist Canadian insult after "Tabarnak".

  4. I have the panasonic S1 which i quite like. It reminds me of the nikon d700 which i also have. It is to bad Panasonic doenst have that many FF lenses yet. Hopefully Samyang will bring out some lenses (the have joined in july previous year but nothing has come out so far) Will tamron ever join? I do hope

  5. Hello dear man, I was wondering about your opinion on video tripods. I take pictures and videos (mainly videos) I'm interested in taking a videos of surfers in the sea from the beach and would like to hear your opinion on the matter. I've never heard you talk about tripods so I guess you're not into that. Using sony a7iv with sigma 100-400mm 5-6.3f(I know what you think about this camera and lens😢)
    Great day

  6. 4:3 is king of kings in the aspect ratio world, Europe should re-adopt 4:3, it was OUR format, OUR aspect ratio, EINE ASPECT RATIO FOR EINE VOLK!

  7. Open gate allows you to use the FULL sensor. You know, that thing you're paying all the money for? Why would you want to pay thousands of dollars and only use part of your sensor? It's a joke people ever fell for that in the first place. Also, there is no rolling shutter with open gate. Who WOULDN'T want to use their full sensor with no rolling shutter?

  8. Shame! – You first need to define what a Gate is inside of a film camera, then define what open-gate means, start with the basics.
35mm cinema runs vertically in Academy 1.33 aspect 4×3 – (4 perforation) – 1.85 (almost 16:9) 3 perf, and 2.40 – 2 perf, all cinema cameras had an interchangeable gate – or if you wanted to use anamorphic lenses to shoot Scope 2.40 or 2.37 Panavision with higher amount of film resolution and less grain You'd opt for either 4×3 4 perf gate, or a wider gate – shooting with an Open Gate would just smear light on to the former and latter film strips if possible by the camera design. OpenGate in ARRI Alexa means exactly the ability to shoot 4×3 full sensor exposure for anamorphic lenses or to stabilize a shaky 16:9 shot. – An asthmatic mountain hiker who invented shoving motion picture film into a tiny camera sideways at 8 perforations creating Leica is responsible for all the stupidity of "Full Frame" and other abominations done in the name of all things Digital that are borrowed from the Analog photochemical universe. TV and Video and Youtube is not Film or Cinema, regardless of how many features manufacturers throw onto Digital SLR and Mirrorless photo cameras designed for Point and Shoot and Advanced Point and Shoot consumers. If you're putting 1/2 a million dollars in front of the lens in terms of actors, explosions and stunts, you need Opengate and RAW – If you're shooting video, just shoot 8-bit compressed, and control the lighting – heck shoot it in 60p/50p to give it that soap opera effect. 4k is not even needed. Let alone 6k-8k.

  9. The RF 100-400 is a fantastic lens. At least for wildlife still photography. The only downside is if you're shooting at sunrise or sunset when it's darker out. In any other time, it's been fantastic. I'm always out during the day and have had zero issues with it. Plus, it has a minimum focus distance of less than 3 feet at 400mm. Yeah, it doubles as a great macro. The sharpness rivals the 100-500. Not much bad about it, especially when you can find it for $450 new during sales. I'm shooting with an R7, so i'm getting the IBIS sync plus the 1.6 mag, so i'm shooting a 7 stop stabilized 160-640mm for $450. Life is good.

  10. thx mate. Still laughing.
Gosh the change from one lens to another platform was pretty cool. How do you explain the improvement in the image when you upped the stop to 2.8 and improved the lighting?….. was there simply insufficient light even with the 1.4 aperture ….or…. what would have happened had you improved the light and left the aperture at 1.4…. (arrghhh now I am lost )
    Enjoyed the show.

  11. Big boy, cinema is yours Senny 416 mic… I’m overjoyed with the sonic pleasure it provides my ears via you voice. Like a full massage for my ear drums… As lovely and phally fantastic as it is, that slender black piece needn’t be in shot if you don’t want. It can be like a hockey stick distance away and it still will provide it’s sonic magic pointed correctly, bit O gain. I’m so happy, cheers sir. 👍🤟

  12. For a minute there I wanted the FX3 but Im soooo glad I kept my A7S3 which I honestly think is ALOT better in sooo many ways!!! A7S3 gang! Lol! >;))))

  13. 14:27 The Sony Canon friendship was yhe best for me. Voightlender fine too. Others oversharp image quality like cheap smartphones. Also Batis looks as green as swamp.

  14. To your question (I'm parafrasing) "in log they have perfect skies but they underexpose your face, every camera company does that, why?". The explanation is simple. Digital cameras preserve the highlights because if they are blown there is no way to recover them, and underexpose the rest of the image because you can recover the shadows in post. That's it. Yes, doing that ads noise, but they rather have noise than a blown out image.
    Cheers! Love your channel!
