  1. Thank you, and now i wont allow anyone willing to listen to me, to buy hp. Cause i actually didnt know this. And their fu***n ad worked too, i was thinking i might give em a try for the next scanner/printer down the road. The very idea that a scanner wont work without ink, or that the printer will need ink from exclusively hp, that hadnt even crossed my mind, cause its just so absurd. Wow… Just wow…

  2. From my own experience, I remember owning an HP printer around 2019/20. I've encountered the same issue where that if I want to just use it for scanning things, it required me to put an ink cartridge in it which I found very annoying.
I can also vaguely remember trying to get this printer to work wired as I wanted to use it offline in case the internet goes out. It worked for a while, then later on, it started requiring me to use the internet even when it was WIRED. I've been unable to resolve this issue for quite a while that eventually, I've stopped using the printer and gave it to my mother.
I don't know what issues she was dealing with but she had such a hard time with it that she ending up breaking the glass for the scanner on accident. It just shows to me that HP was meant to be hated.

  3. i did buy a black and white laser printer (Brother DCP-1610W) about 6 or 7 year ago for 110€ because i did not want to involve myself with inkjet printer whatever the brand (HP are the worst, yeah) because they are scam

Since then i did only buy 2 toner recharge that cost about 30€ and i don't care about color print because… i don't

it scan, it print docs i need, that's all i ask

Don't buy a inkjet printer whatever the reason, it will cost you more than simply using photograph service to print your photo and with less pain, i doubt you print enough color photograph for it to be profitable

  4. Seems HP has forgotten the true meaning of multi function – you should not have to be using ALL the features of the machine ALL the time. Like you said, you do occasional printing. I have an old HP that was made before all these shenanigans (marketers and bean counters from hell took over the company) but I won't buy another one when it is time to replace this one. Thanks for the heads up. Louis, other than the Brother brand, can you recommend other brands of multifunction printers from companies not intent on screwing over their customers please?

  5. S'Funny. When I decided to get a printer again, mostly for printing shipping return labels (this was many years ago) I was all up for getting a used HP Laserjet ex office job made in about year 2000. They could be specced up for duplex printing yadda yadda and i'd used them and found them pretty solid, at work. The whole, cost of maintenance thing put me off and I went and got a $15 Ricoh mono laser which is still working now must be 15 years later, still on the toner cart it came with. Probably just going to get a thermal label printer next time.

  6. Sadly my brother is under his wife's thumb & because her brother buys HP they have to buy the same for over 20 years. Who buys a printer/MF that uses an all in one colour cartridge.

  7. Sincerely, I bought an HP printer that has all the features I needed .. except, I need to use their software to access the scanner, Wifi has limited functionality, and in general most of the features have some sort of artificially introduced handicap. Frankly, I kept my Cannon printer and I use that to scan other than have to give tons of private info to HP to have access to basic functionality.

Now if I sell you a car and say, well if you want the engine to turn, or the brakes to stop your car, you'll need to sign an additional contract in which we can have constant access to your living room.

    I call that false advertising.

It's similar. Frankly I remember when printers were built as resilient as an NES…

  8. I'd go one further. If HP does this, shouldn't one boycott them entirely? I mean I used to buy HP laptops but I don't anymore because their quality kept going down. Shody plastic laptop that are overpriced.

  9. HP is the Apple of printing. The piece of c..p all in one I currently own, will be the absolute last piece of garbage device of any kind I will ever buy from HP with my own money. I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt when my 20y old HP laser printer finally packed it in, but never again. Why oh why do I need an account to be able to print or scan from their app? Just why? And that’s in addition to everything Louis just brought up. Imho, we can go all the way and call HP’s printing business a straight up scam at this point.

  10. Brother is by far the best printer company I know of. Brother lasers are super cheap, and toner never dries out unlike inkjet. Epson ecotanks are pretty good too for the value, I bought a demo model ET 5800 for cheap, and it’s worked out great.
