Tom book is just a single dad with two kids trying his best, loving his job.
Tom nook is a great guy, he isn’t forcing timmy and tommy to work for him he actually took them in from the orphanage and lets them run part of his buisness. he doesn’t have a time limit of when you have to pay your house off and you can just choose to never pay it off and he will never be mad about it.

We also can't forget that he basically gifts the player a house and when you pay him back (which you don't even have to) he upgrades your house fo free
