“Johnny Strides”

A walk along King Street where the streetcars weren’t operating all day due to a derailment at King & Church. I then head up to Dundas Square which the city recently doubled down on its plans to waste nearly a million dollars renaming in a move nobody asked for or wants and does nothing to make…

  1. I'm pretty sure the 501 was running but they would have to walk up to Queen Street to get it because that's the Queen car. They probably killed the power to the lines while they work on getting the derailment figured out so nothing could run on King St. I guess all those people surrounding the streetcar with the safety vests are students taking the Derailment 101 class. Those wheels must have been completely embedded in the pavement. I love your comments about the renaming of Dundas Square, they're perfect.

  2. We could of renamed the intersection after two great Gord's and for two great Canadians: 1. Gordon Lightfoot (Orillia); and 2. Gord Downie (Kingston/Amherstview). And through their work we can learn about our past and future; not some shame based virtue signalling boondoggle (what a clown show civic politics is in the "modern era" especially in Toronto).

  3. I was on my way home from a hospital appointment around 2.30 pm on 19th June 2024 – the same day this video was recorded. We were driving south down Church street and we were unable to continue going south, so I had to turn east into Adelaide to continue my way home. But looking down Church street as we turned the corner, there were at least 3 streetcars all sitting there along Church street between Adelaide and King. I knew something had happened. My first thought was that maybe the power line was cut. But I did not know how wide spread the stoppage was. Thanks.

  4. Streetcars should have their own dedicated lane everywhere. Sharing it with cars makes no sense. Imagine what the city could be if they weren't obsessed with cars

  5. My opinion – Streetcars are one of the main reasons why the subway system is so lacking in TO. Sure you can move more people than a bus, but in reality, they are just slightly bigger busses on tracks. The Ontario line will help with this but honestly that line should have been in existence decades ago … along with Eglinton, and probably many more lines

  6. Why wasn't Dundas Square renamed as Gordon Lightfoot Square.
Why isn't Calgary airport renamed to Ian Tyson Airport?
Why isn't King's Highway 2 renamed Terry Fox Highway?
Lots of good Canadians out there, or at least there used to be, to name things after them.
This country is going to the dogs; no offence to our best friends!

  7. I don't think I ever seen street car off track – Then again they are longer & now a days – Back in the day the electric wires would go off track but driver would fix it quick!

  8. I really appreciate 🙏 this type of video Johnny because it shows the truth in actuality of what 1 derailment of these massive 100,000 hunks of shit can literally 😂 paralyze the entire downtown core. 3 Major Streetcar routes had to be put on diversion & traffic snarled. CP24 protects TTC union with very little coverage. Thanks 😊 for calling 📞 this mess out.

  9. Still loving your vlogs … your passionate defense of your city and its diverse population is inspirational. Our Canadian icons (Downie, Lightfoot, Fox) would be wonderful names to use, IMO.

  10. Oh and the image of the mythical Sankofa is that of a flying bird looking directly backward clutching an egg in its beak. Good way to fly into a wall and break your precious egg.

  11. Absolutely another day and another spectacular beautiful shooting filming footage compilation and you rock it all again my friend, gorgeous filming camera work looks super awesome super sharp and clear and thanks again from Montreal QC ..

  12. Personally I don't like streetcars for this very reason. If something happens, they can't move and they back up traffic. I know they carry more people then a bus
